La Cantine du Voyage - Nantes

Nice experience: first of all, you have a set up menu at 10 euros per person, including a salad only with ingredients coming from their own garden; a piece of chicken with French fries and a drink of your choice. Additional 3.50 euros for a dessert and cheap coffee at 1.50 euros. You get seated at a specific place. The idea is that you will socialize with your neighbors but unfortunately, apart of a "bonjour", the conversation seems to stop there at all tables... service was quite fast. Some baby high chairs are available. Then you can play at baby-foot (plan a 1 euro coin) or pétanque. Or buy a book at the little bookshop (French only) with nice choices. Long chairs available outside. Great place to hang out and nice meal and great value !

We read about this place in a UK newspaper article and we were so pleased we tried it. The service was quite slow, and that was after a 15 minute queue to get in. The food was pretty average too. But the whole experience was really lovely. Lots of families, young and old, locals and visitors, all co-mingling in a very bohemian environment. We loved our day in Nantes and this was a great place for lunch.

Its a must see if you are visiting Nantes!! We really liked this place we first took a drink than had a healthy dinner and finally played babyfoot, the ambiance was cool and cosy.

La cantine is an ephemere restaurant, i.e. installed for a fixed duration. It is very friendly. The concept is great, babyfoot, petanque, skatepark, bar and collective restaurant. You will have dinner on big tables with other people, the sharing leads to discussions and often to a petanque game or a babyfoot contest. The food is simple and good, you are not going to la cantine for a culinary experience but for social experience around a good meal. The price is more that correct, 13Euros for a salad and a main course. Veggies come mostly from the garden on the site.

Had a great family time there, staff is constantly smiling and the view on the sunset was terrific, definitely a must do in nantes!
