The first table was in a room so loud we couldn't hear the waitress or each other. This was probably due to the high tin ceiling and the lack of tablecloths. So we were reseated in another area closer to the bar and oddly the sound a bit better. Our waitress was very kind and knowledgeable. We ordered 2 appetizers as we were quite hungry. They were very good, although the escargot was presented on a large piece of toast that was a bit difficult to cut. Then the entrees came, sadly the haddock was smaller than the appetizer with little else on the plate. My tuna dish was delicious. I think the owners need to rethink their audience and dining experience. I would not recommend this place as the food was good but overpriced and underwhelming.
The long and short of it is that you will not be able to go wrong if you go to Le Sel. My wife and I went with another couple a few weeks ago and had a superlative dinner. Our waitress had a comprehensive understanding of the menu that would have been impressive on a normal day but was even more so since the menu had just completely changed three days prior. The food is excellent - even better than you would expect of an establishment of this high caliber. The bone marrow appetizer was a particular high point. Not only was the dish itself excellent, but the owners Eric and Max have pioneered an experience that everyone needs to enjoy - the Bone Marrow Luge. It is quite simply pouring a shot or two of your favorite beverage down the hollowed out half bone straight down your gullet. Not only does it make you more refined, it is a lot of fun and drinking a good whiskey out of a bone is darn good. To summarize, don't hesitate to go if you have an opportunity. You will not regret it.
