Feedback gevenWe decided to check out the Old Forge after reading the fantastic reviews, and I must say, my pan-fried haddock with vegetables and salad was amazing. The rest of my group also enjoyed their meals. The only downside was that we were the only customers there. Hopefully, more people will visit in the future.
The owners of this restaurant are very proud of its transformation from a blacksmith shop to a restaurant, pointing out original features such as plank floors, an old forge with cast iron pans, closed horseshoes, and smithy tools. They have also added a deck for outdoor dining. The service was pleasant and efficient, showing their commitment to customer satisfaction. However, the quality of the dishes was a bit inconsistent. One member of our group tried an Acadian style meat pie, which was larger than expected for a starter but lacked color and flavor. The clam chowder was a bit thin with only a couple of clams and too much diced potato. The tea biscuit was a highlight. The entrees fared better, with standout dishes such as a beautifully pan-seared fish served with purple cabbage slaw, PEI potatoes, and stir-fried vegetables including rutabaga. The panini sandwich and side salad were also well-received. My scallop fettuccini had small scallops in a creamy Alfredo sauce, accompanied by grilled garlic ciabatta. Overall, while the restaurant is still working out some kinks, the owners are lovely and I wish them success in the future.
We happened here by chance and so glad we did. After our first meal, we returned twice more and plan to visit our next time to PEI. The food is fresh and delicious, made with local produce. Nice to know that there isn't even a fryer in the kitchen! It is a true family restaurant with caring owners.
The menu is not extensive, but there is something for everyone. I tried the Steak and Peppers Panini and it was delicious and generously sized. My husband ordered the Pan Fried Haddock and just looking at his plate made me wish I had ordered it too. They do not offer French fries but instead have a selection of 3 or 4 salads to choose from. I would definitely return to this restaurant.
I ate at the Old Forge Country Kitchen today (not my first visit, by any means) and had pan fried haddock dinner, complete with new baby potatoes, perfectly grilled vegetables. Haddock, homemade coleslaw, and amazing green tomato chow (extra .75 cents, but well worth it). Dinner served with a freshly made in house, and also delicious biscuit.I don't think you can get a better haddock dinner anywhere, than what this restaurant serves, and all for well under $20 (before tax and tip). Beautiful surroundings, excellent friendly service. Do yourself a favour and try this place out.
