Our reservation was for five people, but when an additional two showed up, they were great to make alternative seating assignments so we would be comfortable. It was very obvious that our comfort was priority to them. Most of the tables are round-with seating like a booth or with chairs around them-very comfortable and great for groups. Our larger group sat at a rectangle table to give us more space. The food was beautifully presented and artistically created. Several folks ordered the chef's choice of sushi. I considered it, but opted for the chicken instead. When the sushi came out I was glad with my choice. I don't like the raw fish, which is what it all was. But it sure looked nice! One of my favorite things about this restaurant is the gender neutral bathrooms. They are lavish and clean, although the lighting was a little too dim for my taste. I'd like to be able to see myself in the mirror to freshen up a bit. This is a place I'd likely return to.
Made a late night, Saturday reservation for 9:30 for the sole purpose of enjoying their Peking duck everyone is raving about. We arrived about 10 minutes early, checked our coats at the reception and sat in the bar area to enjoy some drinks. Apparently, this establishment gets plenty of patrons just for this purpose. There is a DJ playing music, which gives is a clubby vibe, playing the music really loud. So if you want to have an intimate conversation, or any conversation, for that matter, it's not ideal. But if you want to just drink and check your iPhones, like everyone seems to be doing, this spot might work for you. And while taste in music is subjective, the DJ was clearly playing music HE likes and he didn't bother reading his audience. Completely oblivious. The drinks took a really long time to get. You get the impression they are short staffed, or not that organized. We were then seated for dinner about 15 minutes after our reservation. Unfortunately, the music in the main restaurant was still at club-level volume and it didn't help it wasn't great music, either. Again, please know your audience. This isn't about me, it's about everyone in the room. Our waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The Peking duck came our rather quickly. It was a nice touch when they brought the whole duck out to present it to us, before they carved it in the kitchen. The flavor was good, and it's served with thin scallion pancakes, tasty hoisin sauce and some greens with thinly sliced peppers. The skin on a Peking duck should be crispy, with the fat rendered into the duck. It's a process that takes a while. THis part completely missed the mark. There was absolutely nothing crispy, which was a big let-down. Tip: if you like a clubby, can't really talk to each other, vibe, this might be a great spot for you, especially if you are already in Hudson yards. Check to see when their DJ is playing, before you go. It may be completely different with other DJ's or when they are not playing at all. It's a bit off the beaten path, in that you don't just walk into the restaurant. It's on the 5th floor of the mall, so take the elevators off to the side. If you like Peking duck, this is not the place to get it. Check out Red Farm or Decoy. Infinitely better. Just make sure to order the duck in advance. They also have Dim Sum. I don't anything about how good it is, but might be worth checking out for this, if you don't mind it being overpriced, compared to the far less fancy places in Chinatown. Verdict: There are other spots in town with better Peking duck, so we will likely not return. If you live in the area and can just pop in, it might be worth checking out.
I ordered the golden chicken with fingerling potatoes and chickpea spring rolls. One of the best meals I've ever had! The espresso martinis were perfection and the ambiance was just right. Great music, fast service.
I came here with a friend for dinner on a weekday. This restaurant is located inside the Hudson Yards mall. We never heard of this place and kind of just looked up a random place to get dinne My friend and I waited maybe 10 minutes for our table to be ready. We sat at the bar until our reservation was available. I must say the cocktails here were good. This is a very nice spot for a date as you get a stunning view of the vessel outside. The decor is very sleek and elegant. My friend and I were seated in our own booth with that was definitely big for just the two of us. I am not complaining but it was a great vibe. The food however is not quite up to par. We ordered the fried calamari, maine lobster hargow, scallop crudo, and an angus steak. All the food were just okay. The food itself mainly lacked in flavor and was otherwise bland. I think the best dish during this meal was the crudo. Overall: beautiful ambience and location, mediocre food.
I'm a pretty big fan of this restaurant. Great food, good service, quick delivery of food, a bit more on the expensive side but a great way to treat yourself on occasion. I really love their golden calamari, braised pork belly and their coconut milk based cocktail. Their Chinese New Year menu is always fantastic and very fun!
