A small and comfortable place. A wide selection of wines. The sommelier makes good recommendations. The food is excellent with few choices (as expected . A pity they do not have enough wine glasses for all the guests (and somewhat surprising isn't it? aren't they a wine bar? . An excellent choice though.
The first thing you need to know about this place is that IT IS NOT A RESTAURANT. It is a wine shop/bar. Food is served to accompany the wine. So why is it very good? Well what food you do get is very good and the wines are excellent and the chap who runs it, Arnaud, is a wonderful host who also speaks much better English than our French. And he knows his wines, who made them and indeed where his food started life. So why Hobson 's Choice. Well other than selecting whether you would like a selection of cold meats or a selection of cheeses or a mix of the two, there is no choice. These are served as a starter but for many that is all they have and indeed both the cold meats and the cheese (locally sourced) were excellent and nicely presented with a little salad. The main course is a single dish but it does change from one night to the next which was good for us as we were staying next door for two nights. The first night we had veal stew with rice and ratatouille which was really tasty and well presented and on the second night we had a type of haggis type dish which once again very good. With each course you can have a glass or indeed a bottle of wine which is sold to you at the same price as if you were buying it to take home from the shop, so the big advantage to this not being a restaurant is that you don 't pay restaurant prices for your wine. A (175ml) glass was between 3-5€ and bottles about 15-18€. The unusual feature is that you tell Arnaud what sort of wine you would like and he make (a very good) selection from his huge repertoire. A great place for a wine novice to start. Would I go back again. Certainly. But maybe not too often.
