Even for parties, I’d pick up a pan of their gau gee. It was our favorite Chinese restaurant and goto for buying big party size food platters. We didn’t realize until very last minute that they were already under new ownership so decided to order something small and test the waters. We read briefly online that the recipes would not be changing so we had high hopes. As expected, the old aunties are no longer there and now a younger staff is there. They were very nice though and friendly. We ordered two things, side of gau gee and a minute chicken cake noodle. however, there is definitely a noticeable difference in their Gau Gee now. I think maybe it’s the wrapper? Idk but it’s not the same. Also, the minute chicken cake noodle we ordered lacked flavor overall and the sauce was basically a chunky jelly. There were actually big clear chunks of gelatin in it. We tried heating it back up but that didn’t seem to help. The cake noodle used to be crispy and thin but now it’s thicker and not as crispy. Gave them a shot with high hopes but came out pretty disappointed. Not really sure if I want to finish the leftovers. This may be totally unrelated but about an hour after eating dinner, my mom had some violent food poisoning symptoms. I’m okay and we ate the same stuff but figured it was worth mentioning.
As customers who have been coming over 10 years we were very disappointed tonight. We found out that the original owners/staff retired and a younger owner/staff took over. We order a won ton min and a wo won ton min also a sweet and sour pressed duck. Our noodles had no taste.Just tasted like hot water was poured in to the bowl. My wife’s won ton min was so clumpy she had to put a lot of it on a plate. The sweet and sour pressed duck that we regularly order was a huge disappointment. The sauce came separately in a small bowl which was not enough. In the past the chef would cover the duck with the sauce. As regular customers for over 10+ years we won’t be back. By the way we also ordered take out salt and pepper pork chops and mabu tofu for my son, he said it lacked flavor and aske us not to order it again.
Everything we ordered was horrible I almost threw up from the fried rice that smelled and tasted spoiled. As a family that has been eating there for 10+ years we are NEVER gonna eat there again
I want there knowing the ownership had changed, so I thought I'd try it. My wife and I usually go there for take outs before the change of owners. I ordered as usual a soft gau gee with fun noodles, black bean and chili sauce. My wife ordered a dinner plate and a side order of crispy gau gee. My expectations fell short. My food was bland and tasteless. It tasted like it was watered down. You would think with all the ingredients I mentioned would be a delicious meal. My wife said the dinner plate, that looked good, was also tasteless. The crispy gau gee was a surprise, it did not taste good. The crispy gau gee meat was tasteless, like they used some strange fillers with the pork. The gau gee really tasted like bad chewy turkey stuffing, but the mustard was good. I learned from friends that they all agreed, Duk Kee is not the same. I later learned that all the previous cooks thier decided to retire. Until they bring back all the AhSook's, I'm afraid they'll end up loosing business or worse. Wake up Duk Kee the people in Hawaii have the most educated palette for good food. Change or go under. Really hope Duk Kee read some post and get with it! I will try them again in a little while and give them a thumbs up or down. Oh well,
Always a great experience with great service ono food. Been going here since i was a child it's always been so good.
