The baked cod entree was fresh and well prepared. We will return and we recommend that you try the Whitman House too.
Los of atmosphere and prices are reasonable. If you like barnacles on your salad plat this is a place for you! All of their food is served on pewter plates with an oxidized finish. Our last time there there was a white residue on our salad plate with what looked like barnacles growing. Similar appearance of an anchor that was just pulled out of the bay. When we brought it to our servers attention she didn't appear to concerned and just took the plate away without an apology.
Why oh why they won 't retire and let Susie the daughter take over She was going to! The restaurant is atrocious First off- the waitress was 'off '...not sure what she was doing but hardly serving the tables properly Crammed into one small space with no tables-when the place was huge! Small menu- Out of many things Food tasted rancid The meats were grey and the fish was awful Portuguese oysters were terrible Such a shame that a once amazing place has been steadily downhill for ten plus years Let the daughter take over and update it!
On vacation and we always make a trip to Whitman house. I'm surprised by some of the bad reviews especially the service. We have never experienced bad service , our waitress tonight was fantastic she was friendly knowledgeable efficient and just very pleasant. The prime rib and sauce was tender and cooked just right, my son really enjoyed his stuffed shrimp and filet mignon... the salad came family style , with baked potatoes , we didn't have room for dessert. Overall we had a great meal and the service was excellent
Very disappointing dinner. We have been visiting the Whitman House for many years and won't be returning. I ordered blackened tuna that the menu describes as tasting best rare. I always eat tuna rare, so naturally that's how I ordered it. The tuna was was so well done you couldn't even tell it was tuna. Another person in our party ordered a baked seafood assortment that managed to be both under and over cooked. The scallops and shrimp were so over cooked they no longer tasted like anything and the scrod was almost raw. The staff didn't seem like they wanted to be there which just added to the underwhelming experience.
