We opted to dine from the carvery menu, with the option of one or two courses. There were four types of meat to choose from, along with five different vegetables and other plate fillers. The main course was delicious, followed by a tasty dessert. The price for two courses was less than €9, which is quite reasonable by today's standards. There is a good selection of drinks to accommodate most preferences. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant.
We unexpectedly found this pub on our way to Bretby and decided to stop in for lunch. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, and the staff were very attentive and friendly. We were lucky enough to snag a table by a cozy log fire. If you're in the area, I highly recommend paying a visit.
While I have visited this restaurant several times and have always enjoyed the food, I have found that the female servers tend to give minimal portions of vegetables. I have always had to ask for more, similar to Oliver Twist. However, when we asked a male carvery server to help carry our elderly disabled mother's plate to the table, he became very rude and disrespectful, claiming his staff were too busy. This completely ruined the family-friendly atmosphere we were expecting. I had to ask him to stop speaking to us in such a hostile manner, as it felt like it could escalate to a physical altercation. Regardless of his bad day, there is no excuse to treat customers in this way. We were disappointed and felt belittled, so we will not be returning to this restaurant.
We were going to be in this area so booked a table for last Sunday after reading good reviews about this place. Mmmmm Upon arriving in the bar area we seemed to be invisible and was not acknowledged by bar staff who seemed to be more interested in putting glasses away. After what seemed to be quite await we were served with our drinks and ushered to our table in the restaurant at the back by a lady who I think finds customers somewhat a hinderance. Not being a regular at this establishment it felt all a bit disorganized. The queue for the carvery stretches between tables of eating customers, you are served all of your food by the staff so it may as well be plated up in the kitchen and brought to your table. The food was ok, homely cooked and plenty of it. Its quite clear it's a busy place but not a place we will be returning to anytime soon.
I visited the Taphouse on Thursday 22/11/19 with my wife to have lunch with some friends.I was pleased that I had booked a table. We arrived at 12.30pm for our booking at 1pm.Our friends had already arrived and were at our table. The place was really busy and the carvery in full flow.People who hadn’t booked unfortunately had to be turned away!!Their own ale ‘Taphouse’ was creamy and dark and most welcome. We all ate off the lunchtime Menu. The soup was tasty and the carvery has a good choice of meat and pies with a good range of vegetables. The desserts were also traditional and enjoyable.Great service , tasty food and beer all at a good price.Well worth a visit!
