I convinced my husband to try the Cafe inside the Quilted Bear tonight. We were both starving as neither of us had eaten all day. Wow...what a $50 epic fail! Where to start...the wait time, since they had no customers, was ridiculous considering how quickly they can turn out an order on their food truck. When our order actually did come out, it was missing my soup and my husband's cinnamon roll, so we had to go ask for that, which took another eternity to make its way to our table. My husband ordered the Daddy, and we turn out a better grilled cheese at home than what my husband was served. I think one of the slices of bread was a week old stale slice of bread randomly used on his sandwich (which was pretty small). It was literally crouton hard. I told him to wait to eat it with my soup to soften it up a bit. My sandwich was actually pretty good, I had the Spicy, they were out of the jalapeño bread, so I had regular bread...still larger than my husband's sandwich. We both decided to try the cheese fries, they were just soggy with a lot of melted cheese. Another huge disappointment. Meanwhile, we are still waiting on the soup and cinnamon roll. At this point my husband has finished his incredibly unimpressive food, I slowly ate half my sandwich waiting for my soup to come out so I could at least have my soup and sandwich together. We heard the microwave and shortly thereafter out came my watery tomato soup with some grated cheese throughout it and the cinnamon roll. I finished the other half of my sandwich with some of the microwaved soup. Again, what an epic fail. I mean, it's pretty hard to screw up a grilled cheese, or even an order that consist of grilled cheese, soup and cheese fries. Now, if they had been swamped, I'd be a bit more understanding, but seriously!? We were the only ones there, and the order ahead of us was an order of mozzarella sticks. I've worked the food service industry and I'm not sure where the malfunction was but maybe management n
We stumbled upon this restaurant during a Google search for local dining options, and it truly is a hidden gem. Tucked away at the back of Quilted Bear in the Newgate Mall, the place has a charming and cozy atmosphere. The service was excellent; the staff answered all our questions and offered great menu recommendations. Our food arrived promptly and everything was incredibly fresh. We tried the Spicy and Ravioli sandwiches, along with fries, and all of it was absolutely delicious. The portion sizes were generous, making the prices an exceptional value. I highly recommend it!
When our food finally arrived, we headed out to the parking lot to check it. Unfortunately, it was terrible—burnt, overly seasoned, and the cheese was not melted. It was inedible. I quickly returned to the store, handed back my food, and requested the store manager's phone number. After contacting her, she apologized for the mix-up and offered me a $15 in-store credit. However, they did not offer to refund my debit card, which I found a bit strange. While the manager was professional and kind, my overall first impression of the food was quite disappointing.
The food here is good, but I have to say that every time we visit this café, we seem to run into one problem after another. The food often takes longer than expected, and sometimes they don’t even have fries available. For instance, today we wanted a fountain drink, but they tried to get us to buy canned drinks instead. When we asked about the price of refills, the cashier kept changing the subject and making excuses about why we couldn’t get a drink. We couldn’t even get water cups without being pushed to buy bottled water. While I don’t mind purchasing bottled water, it’s not worth it when my kids only drink half of it. Next time, I think I’ll just look for a food truck; at least I’d get better service from them and can bring my own drinks.
