Eagle and Child Oxford, England. C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien both drank here, sometimes together. These are only two examples of the famous characters that came to this pub in the past. This pub is well known because the inclines (tolkien, cs lewis, and gk chesterton) came together here and stopped their writings weekly. it is about 10 minutes to walk from campus, easy. as pub it has many tables, and we had no problems sitting. this is a nicholsons pub, so if they like their usual tariff, they will like eating here. they also have a special cake menu. the linseed and sweet potato cakes were fantastic!
Intended to visit the lamb and the flag over the street, but their kitchen closed at the beginning 830 clock. which brought us serendipitally to this local gem. a real historical pub full of atmosphere. decent selection of cooked food and large selection of beer. the bar staff was very friendly and patient. we were just a tade that was amused when they wanted to check the identification cards of us 30 years old cerls. tavern policy
Really nice pub. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. We went there a little bit late, but just in time to taste their good pie. The one with mushrooms and steak is really suggested. Everyone who cames to Oxford should spend some time here, in the famous pub of Tolkien and Lewis
