This past Friday we ordered takeout from Sushi House and settled in at home to watch movies. It started off well, but then I bit into a piece of one of the sushi rolls and there was a weird texture in my mouth. It was a hair! Dinner abruptly ended at that point. We are frequent customers at Sushi House and have loved it until now, so I didn’t want to contact them while I was so upset. I decided to wait until the next morning so I could respond in a calm, rational manner. I emailed Sushi House, told them what happened and asked for a full or partial refund. It has been two full days and they have not responded. They’ve made no attempt to even partially refund the cost of the food since we obviously did not continue eating, and they haven’t apologized. We are very disappointed. Their inaction tells us how little they value us as customers.
I was disappointed with the sushi restaurant as I found it to be subpar compared to many others I have visited over the years. The flavors were bland and did not leave me satisfied. The service was decent, but the atmosphere could use some updating and personality. Overall, this establishment did not meet my expectations.
NOTE: Should be 3.5 out of 5, rounded up to 4 So, on my way to visit a client in Maple Ridge, I decided to stop for lunch at a random Sushi place I saw on my drive, just to test my theory out about quality of restaurant in Vancouver. I'm happy to say that without a doubt, my theory held. My visit to Sushi House was definitely unplanned.. I didn't even plan to eat that day, but I made it with lots of time to spare so figured why not? I ordered off the Lunch menu, which, sadly, I didn't get a picture of. I remember it being one of those choose one from each category sort of deals that read like a Choose Your Own Adventure novel. My selection was complemented by a well priced Philly Roll.. I'm beginning to get the feeling that cheap Philly rolls are a thing in Vancouver. The food, while not spectacular, met my expectations and overall wasn't bad. What made it special, at least for me, was that despite being pretty far from Vancouver proper, that the quality of Sushi was still generally consistent, which is not something I can say for the restaurants around here. Not sure if I'd make a special trip to revisit this place, but if I was in the area, I wouldn't have any hesitation to drop in again.
Located in a strip mall, this place does have the best sushi in the area (that doesn't say much) but the fish is fresher than the rest, much better than the high end sushi eatery on the other end of the strip mall, better selection as well. Ambiance....well there is none, the place is often dirty, but once again the food is pretty good. The issue I have is with the service, we placed our order for food, a couple of rolls and soup, nothing super fancy. We then received our order and were shocked by the size of the order, this would definitely have given the eatery 5-stars. The sushi was good, wild salmon was great. When we went to pay our bill was 5 times the amount we were expecting. The waitress said well this is what you ordered. I pointed out in no way was this what I ordered, I even pointed out the items in the menu to her. She then explained that I had said tuna roll and salmon roll, which is code in this place for larger order, I asked her where it said that on the menu. She responded with....well people just know that when you say Tuna maki it is small and tuna roll is an extra sized order. Once again I asked her to point that out in the menu. Nothing, we left the ridiculous fight, with the owner looking on, terrible business practices all around. Will not be back. I work in the area and this was incredibly disappointing.
