The GPS lacked a new autovia that had just opened, throwing it into chaos. I turned off the road into a tiny one-street town (Mamola) and we found ourselves on the waterfront next to a café with local eating under an awning. Patricio welcomed us warmly and the sangria soon arrived. Looking around us we were wide-eyed at the seafood being delivered in metal pans to happy Spaniards. With lots of hand signals we managed to order a variety of fish and seafood and dined like kings. Everything was delicious including the dessert. We struck up a lively conversation with locals next to us, a challenge with no common language. I was advised to have a coffee with a good shot of brandy but declined. A faulty GPS with a faulty driver is a bad idea. Of course we found out we did have a common language (French) late in the conversation. So Café Patricio is worth a detour for the food and ambience. Patricio will take good care of you and shower the best of food on your table. There was a variety of whole fish (mullet, dorado etc) and fresh seafood cooked on iron pans. The desserts were also magnificent.
My wife and I have been going to this restaurant for several years and have always received the same excellent service and quality. Wonderful seafood, value-for-money wines, attentive and caring owner.
Lunch on 3 September 2013. Beach-side restaurant with lovely sea views. Interesting menu, plenty of fish. We had Zarzuela, Spanish-style fish stew. Absolutely gorgeous food. A large helping for two people which, in spite of encouragement from a delightful waiter, we were unable to finish, such a shame to leave what I consider to be the best zarzuela I've ever eaten.
