Our server John has worked here for 46 years and reveled in stories with my husband about the olden days here at the Benson Hotel. I'm always in awe of the majestic beauty of this building. I felt safe from the riff raff of the streets and welcomed. They really make you feel at home. I'll be honest and say, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I was served the worst kamikaze I've ever had. I even sent it back to be corrected, and it still tasted horrible. The other drink I tried was not made well either, unfortunately. They really need to step it up with their mixers or muddling skills. Overall, it was a great evening with lots of laughter.
The food is a solid 4/5 but if you have accessibility needs just go somewhere else. The door to the accessible entrance where locked and we just happened to be there when a maintenance person saw our group trying to get in.Wheelchair accessibility: Not truly accessible. The accessible entrance is kept locked. Save yourself a headache and go somewhere else.
I had breakfast in the Palm Court. It was a straightforward American scramble. Food was good and service was as attentive and quick. The main draw for this place is definitely the space itself. The open Benson lobby space is unique and light filled during the breakfast hours. I will have to come back for a drink or dinner!
My granddaughter and I were treated like queens and family members every time we stepped into the Palm Court. Try the eggs Benny!
Had dinner the day we arrived breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was great, but dinner was amazing. The chicken salmon entrees the mussels appetizer were all as good as anywhere we’ve ever eaten before. Our waiters, Johnny for dinner Bobby for breakfast were both great servers, but also had great stories to tell from their many years of working at the Benson Hotel. Give the Palm Court a try if you’re in Portland, even if you’re not staying at the Benson.
