Maya the barkeep was GREAT! Super friendly, recommended just the right beer to me, and whipped up a refreshing non-alcoholic drink on the spot for my friend who wasn't feeling boozy. I already dug TBM, but Maya is the barkeep I hope to see when I return!
Really wanted to like the space, unfortunately, There Be Monsters describes the customer service for half the bar staff. We stopped by as our first stop of the night, and ordered drop shots on a holiday when it was very slow. Instead of politely informing us of the house policy of this not being allowed, we were met with rude, snarky customer service. I respect house policies and the refusal to serve anyone, but her approach almost seemed like an attempt to belittle us for what we were requesting.Additionally, when I attempted to order a modification of what I was declined at first, the bartender made no attempt to acknowledge or confirm my drink order. She then proceeded to pour something I didn 't request, told me it was already poured, so you have to pay for it without any sort of apology or accountability for the mistake. She walked away ignoring us, letting her co-worker try to pick up the damage control of making us feel extremely uncomfortable, unwelcome, and as if we were a burden to their evening. They still charged us full price for something we didn 't even want or order.0/10 won 't be returning or reccomending.
This has the kind of old school vibe that makes you want to sit in the corner and drink whiskey. The bartender was seriously on point! The dessert we had was incredible and the bar was sparkling with ambiance. I always forget that monsters is right across from Revolution Hall but I will be going back in the near future for sure!
There Be Monster's definitely describes the customer service. It's unfortunate that such a cute atmosphere can be ruined by clearly unhappy staff; Not only disrespectful to patrons, but rude to her colleagues making an awkward an uncomfortable situation.
