Pure And Lounge - Portsmouth

I was greeted immediately by the waitress and I ordered our food to go. I had the Ribeye Steak Dinner with a sides of spinach and mashed potatoes with gravy. My wife had the Fried Shrimp Dinner with Mac and cheese and cabbage. Our food was cooked to our liking and I suggest that when you are in P-Town, Downtown stop in at 448 Green Street and enjoy yourselves.

Friends told me about this place, loved the “funky kinda cool” vibe. Service was great (Dreen), and the food was everything I had been told it would be. I had the Oysters Rockefeller to start and they were delicious. For dinner I had the Turkey Chops (porkless chops), rice with gravy and collards, it was like being home. It was so good, I can’t wait to come back to try the other items on the menu. Love, love, love this place.

By far THE BEST soul food I have had in a long time, and I’m from the South (Florida)! District came up as the first Google search result for “black owned restaurants near me”, and they absolutely deserve the top spot. Brittany at the entrance/bar was EXCEPTIONAL as our waitress and provided top-notch service from entrance to exit. Now the food…every dish on my plate exceeded expectations. Seasoning, portion sizes, options, everything A1. I would highly recommend District to residents and those visiting Portsmouth, VA! I STAN a Black-Owned establishment! Thank you for existing, District!

District is a restaurant that is off the beaten path with cuisine that matches the high flavor profile of a 'hole in the wall ' that many a foodie crave. The menu is easy to read and dishes are affordable yet filling. The Tastes option can sate the hunger of a belly on a budget just as much as the entrees and the atmosphere is welcoming amid a bustling crowd. The service can be a bit slow and repeated, thus the deducted star, but that is more than made up for by the good portions of great food. I highly recommend the liver and onions. Cheers!

The food was absolutely delicious. Prices are fantastic for the quantity of food you get. Comfortable atmosphere. Yes, mask worn and social distancing. Great customer service. Waiters and waitresses on point. Bathroom amazingly clean. Come see for yourself why I was so excited and will be coming back and bringing some folks with me.
