It appeared to me it was designed for tourists coming off the cruise ships. Margarita was terrible. Won't go back unless other restaurants in the area are closed. They have a big menu and I may not have ordered the right dish both times I went...
My wife and her BFF discovered this place one night when they went out for a cocktail. They brought me back some delicious fish tacos The fish was grilled (as it should be, not deep-fried) and so fresh. The prices were great too. we ended up going the next night for dinner. the place in beautifully decorated and very comfortable. My daughter loved the music. There was also a random old dog that wandered in and just laid around. The staff half-heartedly kicked her out, but she cme back when they weren't looking. She was so sweet, we all gave her a nice pet. Overall, a very nice ambiance.
My wife and I were staying at the Playa Linda Hotel in Progreso right on the Malecon (Beach Road) starting on 02/11/2017. The next day we wanted to search for a good place to eat on Sunday evening. We walked out of the hotel and to the right was the Maya Ka which looked great so we walked in. Immediately, we were greeted and shown to a table. The place was filled with families and the children had 2 small swimming pools to play in while their parents watched and had dinner. Our waiter was very pleasant and after giving us our menu's brought 2 margarita's Then we chose Camorones a la Diabla - shrimp in a very hot sauce - which we had enjoyed in Tampico many years ago. They were fantastic. Our waiter, A;rturo, was all you could want to help you and I would recommend you ask for him when you go there. We went back to Maya Ka several times that week we stayed in Progreso and will go again when we go back to Progreso next year.
The pool was very dirty. I found a ball of hair on the bottom, also there were wrappers floating on the water. The service was slow it took 30 min to get drinks and when we did get the drinks, the glasses with ice were half way melted. The tuna was over cooked and had a sweet sauce and the salads "special sauce" is ranch dressing. This restaurant is not bad though, my quesadilla was great, the bathrooms were nice and also the scenery. Maya ka had pros and cons.
Horrible food served in a beautiful setting. Our tuna appetizer was canned tuna. In a seafood restaurant? Yes. The coconut shrimp tasted like they were microwaved until rock hard. The fish was soggy and salty. There was not one single good thing to say about our meal. The drinks were ok. The server was uninterested. She offered to bring her boss over but the boss lady stood about 7 feet away and turned around. Don't eat here. It's s scam
