Went for the first time on New Years Eve. The food was delicious and came out in a very timely smart way. Staff were kind and accommodating.
This is the second time we 've gone to eat here for dinner the first time, the food was fine, barely any seasoning, average Italian food. They don 't tell you that they charge $10 for the San pelligrino they leave on the table, they word it in a way that it 's equivalent to getting still water. We were willing to accept that remember for next time. We came back for our anniversary dinner the server mentioned they have a truffle risotto as a special (not written on the menu) she said we could have an appetizer portion if we wanted to try it. We got all of our food again nothing to write home about (just average Italian food where you have to add your own salt pepper), the risotto as well was pretty bland and had a few flakes of truffle shaved on top. When we got our bill in the end the risotto appetizer was $35... so something that is told is an appetizer portion is the same price as the filet mignon? After a back and forth with the manager, the owner took it off our bill. How do you except someone to guess the price of a half order of mediocre risotto make it the most expensive thing on the menu ? Seems shady. For perspective the most expensive item on the menu is the filet mignon which is $44.00 the full portion of the risotto is $45.00....they should disclose the price and not use shady tactics to make an extra buck
I have lived in Camden, Maine, for nine years, and pickings are slim for the locals who would like to have a nice meal without leaving an arm and a leg. Ports of Italy is one of the few restaurants in the area that are actually open and serve a good meal. So, what is the issue? Rudeness and the appearance that it is ok for the wait staff and the owner to be rude. This evening I ordered take out and the person who took the order said it would be ready at 4:45 or 4:50. No problem. I arrived at 4:42 I know because I asked the time. 2 waitresses were chatting at the bar and kept chatting until a nice young lady came to help and it seems that the waitress sprung to life when she heard my order and proceeded to say I told whoever called the above time. I said, no problem. The waitress did not do a thing she let the young lady do the work. I left a tip and the young lady gave it to the waitress. There was no have a good night etc. I am finally writing because since they opened this little routine with the manager and the wait staff seems to be the rule not the exception as, shame on us, we have gone there for at least 5 years. I might add, my husband is Italian and his mother is from Italy. I have never experienced rudeness like this as a cultural thing unless maybe they are Calabrese or Sicilian? Anyhow, I reached my limit tonight and I would recommend that all of the people who have a 4 or 5 and live locally should examine the human interaction. Believe the reviews.
Amazing food, friendly service. I ordered the scallops and asparagus...which was ABSOLUTELY delicious! I love that they bring you crispy ciabatta bread and olive oil prior to your meal. The drinks were delicious, I always order cocktails with my meals and theirs were very good. I think if I could change anything I might have put a little more of a sear on the scallops to give a tiny crunch to the outside...but even without this, I was not disappointed in the least.
