When we placed our order, we mentioned that it was our first time trying Ethiopian food and the waitress helped us choose a combo plate that would suit us, with fish for me as I do not eat meat and non-spicy options. However, when the platter arrived, we were informed that they were out of fish and had substituted lamb without asking us. We requested the tofu and vegetable dish instead, which they promptly brought to us. The lack of explanation on how to eat the food (no utensils or plates provided) left us unsure, but we eventually figured out to use the injera as tortillas. The food was flavorful, although some dishes were too spicy for our liking. Despite the issues, I would consider returning to try different dishes, as the restaurant has received many positive reviews.
The food was decent, although not exceptional. The Ethiopian beer was not to my liking, so I would recommend avoiding it. The service was quite sluggish, with a wait of 45 minutes. Additionally, the staff seemed to be unfamiliar with Open Table and were unable to confirm my dinner reservation or acknowledge that I had dined at the restaurant.
The food here was really good. But, from the minute we walked in and weren't aknowledged, to having to ask several times to have our server sent over....eh...the good food wasn't worth the bad service. The house honey wine tasted like honey and a packet of bread yeast mixed together, it was truly awful. Too bad we didn't have a better experience. It's not often that you can so easily find good vegan food on a menu.
We would have loved to dine again at Queen Sheba but our open table reservation was not sent to Queen Sheba by Open Table. It was Valentine's Day night, and when we walked in at our reserved time, the restaurant was packed. Every seat taken. A huddle of maybe 10 other couples were cramped in the space by the front door, all of whom had made reservations for apparently the same time as us, 7 PM, on Valentine's Day, and none of which could be seated because Open Table never sent the reservations to Queen Sheba. All of this trouble seemed to fall upon the shoulders of Open Table. As a result, we did not dine Queen Sheba (and I'm not about to give this wonderful restaurant a poor review because Open Table messed up) and instead went a few doors down to the Thai Restaurant. The moral is do not rely on Open Table to send a reservation to the restaurant. You might need to call the restaurant yourself to make sure you have a reservation.
This was our first trip to this restaurant and Ethiopian food. When the waitress took our order, we let her know that it was our first time, and she helped us choose a combination plate that would work for us with fish for me because I don't eat meat and everything not picky. When they brought the plate, they announced they were out of fish, so they replaced lamb. We were shocked that they would change the food we ordered without asking, and she was shocked that we were unhappy with it! We asked for the tofu and vegetable dishes to subtute for the fish they brought quite fast. This is our first time. The food was discarded on the table without explanation of how to eat it properly (no utensils or plates provided and no one came by to check us). We suspected that we should use the Injera as tortillas, but after we were finished, we saw another table that takes small pieces off to grab the food we felt a little stupid. The food was delicious, although the tofu with vegetables a little too spicy for me, although it was good. My husband said the chicken cubes were too sharp for him. We're both eyelashes when it comes to spices. The Gomen (spindle and herb) was delicious! Despite the problems, I would be willing to try again some different dishes, especially because they have received so many Rave reviews.
