Food is fantastic, service is exceptional. Atmosphere was really nice, just a bit noisy.
There’s no option for terrible customer service. We love Mikuni sushi! It’s my sons favorite restaurant and we have gone for his birthday the past 4 years. However; last night I was disappointed with the customer service. We went to the Folsom location which is one of the busiest locations. We did have a big party of 12 and waited over an hour and 20 minutes to be seated Bc of the ‘no reservation’ rule. That was fine because I know their rules. But because of our big party we did have to go out of our way and have someone who was nearest to the restaurant put our name in early. We were also told they had other ‘big parties coming in which is why the wait would be so long. (If they have a ‘no reservation’ rule, how would they know about other large parties? Before we were brought to the table, I connected with the staff at the busy front desk and they confirmed’ our large table was ready. They did not make it known to the whole party to ‘follow me, I’ll take you to your table’. Even when sitting down there was no communication as to ‘your server will be with you shortly’ or ‘here’s your server _____’. When we sat down, we weren’t greeted with a hello, my name is I’ll be your host tonight, let me know what I can do for you. (This is usually when the server can establish who will be in charge of ordering appetizers and the main point of contact for the table). None of that happened. The waitress never smiled to us. Anytime I tried to order appetizers from her she kept moving down the table as if she was too busy to listen to me. We had to ask to spin the wheel. We spent over $600 in that establishment and were never greeted as a table, or smiled at and were given poor customer service. It was very awkward at times and at one point upsetting. There was no rhyme of flow to the night and I wanted it to be special for my son. And the 11 other gusts who joined us. To top it off, usually when a restaurant holds a cake and brings it out with a candle, they make an announcement ‘we’re celebrating a birthday tonight, join us in singing happy birthday’ nope…none of that. We all had to start singing happy birthday as the waitress brought the cake to my son, one half of the table started and the other half lagged. It was off and you could feel it. As the night came to a close all the wait staff who were there assisting seemed unhappy with everything they were doing. Or they were unhappy with us, which I can’t imagine what we would have done to them. We were simply there to enjoy a nice birthday dinner for my son. Someone asked if we wanted the rest of the cake. I said no, you can toss or take back to the kitchen, the waiter literally turned away from me and started walking away as if he was disgusted with my response. No, ok have a great night. Nope, just a rude head turn and look of disgust. At one point during the night, I looked at all of the staff in the restaurant, and didn’t see one smile on anyones face. Not one person who was working had a smile or looked as if they were even faking a smile. Happiness and enjoyment of the job comes from Management, so if the staff members are getting pressured by management negatively….no wonder why it exudes from the employees. Please, train your managers and staff on customer service. People won’t always remember what you say, but they will remember their experience and how you make them feel. We’ve been to all of the surrounding Mikuni restaurants in Sacramento more typically Roseville and have never been treated this way.
