We were looking fwd to trying the food from this place. Unfortunately they just had table inside. My wife got in but I realised that the small space and the delicate furniture could have triggered potential damages from our 2 years old daughter. We decided to discuss it outside and I tried to explain it to the owner (or manager . In the meantime I simply asked an information to the restaurant next to it. We finally decided to give it a try, so we entered and tried to sort the tables keeping glasses and knives away from our daughter .... and suddenly the manager shouted VAI VIA! (GO AWAY! . Realising that I was italian he opted to embarass me in my own language. And continued Go to the next restaurant! pushing me. I tried to explain that there was no reason to freak like that, but he continued (despite my daughter started crying . The guests seemed pretty embarrassed by that sad show. The food looks good. And the location is nice. I just feel sorry for the whole team working hard under a man obsessed with his pride that ruins the reputation of the restaurant and of his Country.
Small, but brilliant restaurant, with high quality interior detailing, pleasant ambiance, knowledgeable and passionate staff, who know how to cook.
My wife and I had dinner at this restaurant and enjoyed the cuisine very much. Here is a chef that knows what they are doing and produces unusual dishes with good quality ingredients. The menu is on a blackboard and the waiter owner took fully 8 minutes to explain the dishes in some detail. His enthusiasm and love of good food shone through. We had Langoustines and an unusual gravadlax of veal with a quirky sauce. Then milk fed pork, absolutely beautiful flavour and so tender and succulent. I rounded the meal off with a fabulous chocolate fondant. At the end of the meal we asked for a taxi to be called as my wife is partially disabled and the owner offered to take us back to our hotel in the restaurant van. What a kind thing to do. In short, we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and would recommend this restaurant.
Seasonal warm salad of perfectly cooked fresh squid, dressed with a garlic cream. Slow braised veal hock on a bed of roasted summer beetroot, served with a dusting of pistachio, cinnamon, white pepper and the reduced cooking juices. Roasted fresh apricots with a basil cream, beautifully presented with a basil vanilla chantilly dark chocolate shell. Polite, friendly and efficient service and a nice glass of wine, great value at €44! Definitely the best lunch we have ever had in Saintes.
