Feedback gevenI recently dined at this restaurant for a friend's dinner party and was impressed by the size and decor of the establishment. Formerly known as Lugang, the restaurant also offers private function rooms for small groups. The food was delicious and presented beautifully, although on the pricier side. Some standout dishes included the steamed lapu-lapu, mashed taro puff with scallop and truffle, baked prawns with cheese, steamed crab with glutinous rice and pumpkin, and seafood thick soup. The service was efficient and friendly, with a welcoming receptionist and courteous wait staff. Ample parking space is available just across the restaurant with parking attendants on hand to assist. Located on Connecticut Street in Greenhills, I look forward to returning to try more of their enticing dishes.
My family celebrated my visiting uncle's birthday lunch at Xiu, which is a new restaurant from the same management as the previously enjoyed Lugang. The restaurant features Hong Kong chefs and a higher level of culinary expertise. As a non-pork eater, I was limited in my choices but was impressed by the elephant shell with steamed vermicelli. The service was excellent and the traditional Chinese ambiance was complemented by elaborate walls. The clean bathroom was a bonus. I would return to Xiu, but perhaps when older adults are present to handle the bill.
The restaurant was advertised as serving Hong Kong cuisine, so we had high expectations for a great culinary experience. However, we were slightly disappointed. The parking lot across the road had unusual gutter markers instead of lines, making it difficult for larger SUVs to park comfortably. The birthday meal we had was a mixed bag - the char siu pork was deliciously tender, the quail eggs in the noodles were unique and tasty, and the shark fin soup, mushroom, and abalone dishes were all good. Unfortunately, the prawns were not fresh and the pigeon was tough. The crab was fresh but the flavors didn't appeal to me. The live grouper in soy sauce was pre-sliced and tasty, and the melon sago dessert was a unique twist. Overall, the meal was expensive, and there are other Chinese restaurants that offer better value for money.
The only great thing about XIU is the ambiance. aside from the washroom that is still a ONE PAX per time (wondering why they didnt renovate this too)anyway, service was abysmal. the time for the food to be served was 20 minutes after ordering with the interval of 15 minutes for every next dish. Take note, there were not much people dining there at that time. We had to call the waiters attention numerous times to follow up our order and to have our waters refilled. So much for the fine dining experience.THe food was VERY average. so average that we were actually shocked when we got the bill. our total bill was 15,000++ Philippine pesos. Yet, there was nothing fancy with what we ordered.Be warned, servings are small too. In a nutshell., the experience would have been better if the service was really custom tailored to be for a fine dining. which their claiming to be.Will probably never go back here again. Not worth the experience. Lots of fine dining places out there.
This is the place where Lugang Cafe was formerly located. The area is large, with private cubicles for one large table. The food is very good, including vegetarian and vegan. The price is high, however.
