A colleague and I were seeking someplace to eat and used google to find something close to where we were driving. A couple of places came up but we decided to try Wow Thai Food. What a pleasant surprise we had to find a former train depot converted to a Thai restaurant. Helen, the owner, was quick to greet as we came in and she immediately made us feel totally welcomed. She explained that the building had once been the train depot and that the original floors where still visible. They had also maintained the original benches that train travelers once sat on and here I was sitting on the same wooden bench. Beer and wine were available but with Helen's help we quickly decided on a couple of her tea selections which she blended and tied into a tea bag as we waited. She recommended several dishes and quite frankly, I wish I could have tried them all. Each authentic dish was homemade and were truly authentic Thai, I just love it when I find these gems when I travel. There is just not a good argument for chain restaurants when you can find locally owned businesses that put out this quality of food. I am not in that part of the world often but I would consider going out of my way to go to this place again!
I get a feeling this place is own by Vietnamese, because you can hear them talking in the kitchen. That being said the food here isn't authentic Thai food. The flavor is off balance and definitely not fresh. Will not return!
I ordered from Wow for delivery through Foodsby. What I got was basically a large serving of somewhat dried-out white rice with a few pieces of bland, non-spicy chicken that was supposed to be chicken curry with coconut and peanuts. I could not detect the coconut and peanuts. The egg rolls were pretty good. This is the only Thai restaurant in the Twin Cities that I really don't like.
I wish I can give this place zero stars. I'm from Chicago and we stopped by to eat here because of the reviews. Since it's on our way to our next destination. First of all- the plates and silverware were all dirty. They had so much dust on them. I think from it not being cleaned well. We flipped the red handkerchief in the air and so much dust cake out of it. We address the dust on the plates and the lady took the plates and storm to the back. Came back later and I think they were the same plates just wiped down. You can see the dust on the fingers. Silverware are old. Food was frozen and reheated. The thing that ticked us was the bug in the vegetable. They did not wash the vegetable. It was nasty. The bug was crawling in my plate from the carrot and the lettuce. It was a green bug. I took the plate to the lady and she took the plate from me and walked to the kitchen to show some guy name Tam. Who I think is the chef. He said no bug. How can he say that when it's green and crawling on the plate. That was it. I had enough. Then the atmosphere changed in the room. Everything went down even more from there. The lady said she took out the pricing for the plate that has the bug. But really, you had to have an attitude first before you can do that. We didn't need you to take it out. We still paid and tipped them. We even told her we were still going to pay for the plate that had the bug. We just wanted to get out of here. The guy on the phone and Vietnamese guy was so loud. We heard everything he was saying from where we were eating. He was in the kitchen. This place is a such a disappointment. And we did research. Don't waste your time and money here if the service and customer service is this horrible. It's like they don't care because maybe the owner wasn't there. Horrible. Horrible.
