The Bear has been on our radar for months, though we either struggled to secure a reservation or missed their open hours. Last week, we chanced upon it and were fortunate to have the last table without a prior booking. The service was excellent. While the menu wasn't extensive, the options were enticing. I opted for the ox cheek and red wine pie, and my husband chose the honey-roasted ham. The pie was piping hot, brimming with ox cheek, and truly delicious. The ham, accompanied by double eggs and chips, looked appealing. I sampled some of the ham, finding it thick-cut and wonderfully flavorful. Our dining experience here was delightful. I've recommended it to friends and will certainly make an effort to return soon.
Sunday Roast AMAZING. I had the steak and my friend had the pork. The seasonal vegetables and roast potatoes were so well seasoned. Followed to share a treacle tart which had a zingy zest to it. It was mouth-watering. The service was also 5 star . Glass wine and a cider which took our bill to under £80. Great team , great price great amazing food. Its win win combination. Must go and visit.
It was my birthday and we made an impromptu first visit to this restaurant on the way home. I called ahead to ask if the pub allowed dogs and was reassured that they were very dog friendly. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed at the door and even recognized as the people who had called earlier. Despite arriving late due to traffic and having limited time before picking up our children from school, we were recommended the mussels for a quick meal. They were fantastic - huge and incredibly fresh. The staff were incredibly kind and genuine, showing a real interest in where we were from and our dog. We will definitely be returning.
We had Sunday lunch at this restaurant. It was busy, which I believe is a positive indicator of good food and great service. We are excited for our next visit.
Arrived on a Saturday night for a table of four. The restaurant was being used by a cricket club event so were seated in the bar which was fine. The menu was fairly limited sons didn’t like anything on the starter menu and not many choices for main. We waited an age for the starters to arrive which was acknowledged by the waitress (we hadn’t complained about the wait) who had said they were coming soon but the kitchen was busy due to the restaurant capacity. Again waited a very long time for the main course. The food was just ‘okay’, nothing amazing. Husbands beer was rather flat. Had to return a glass of wine which had someone else’s lipstick on it. The bill had a service charge added to it which in general, I would rather make a choice of if to tip/how much. Wasn’t going to make a fuss about that as sons would have been embarrassed. Service was polite enough, nothing stand out. Sadly, wouldn’t return on this experience.
