The fish and chips were a generous serving, but the fish was a bit greasy. Many items on the menu are deep fried, including the frozen fries which were not of good quality. The service was just okay, with servers often seen chatting amongst themselves. Despite having a nice patio/deck, the restaurant lacked enough staff to accommodate both inside and outdoor seating. It seems like the restaurant may be catering more towards older and local customers, as it used to be a better place in the past.
I ordered the lobster roll, knowing I would get fresh lobster on the coast. There was so much mayo mixed in, I thought I would be sick. I couldn't even taste the lobster.
Delicious deep-fried clams, nice *big* scallops. Our regular deep-friend seafood place in nearby Pennfield was closed, so we tried this place and were very pleased, clams and scallops were even better than the usual place! Crinkle cut fries were pretty generic but more than plentiful. Only giving 4 of 5 stars because 2 in our party opted for butterscotch pie which was disappointing, pie crust was very undercooked, thick and soggy but filling tasty. Service was friendly and efficient, prices reasonable. Worth a visit!
I went to Birch Grove recently as part of a group from work; my wife (who works at the same place) accompanied me, too. We both opted for the fish and chips. I 've said that the best fish and chips I 've ever had was at The Caves Restaurant in St. Martins: The fish at Birch Grove was on the same level, though the crinkle-cut chips (a.k.a. French fries) were rather average. We shared a peanut butter pie for dessert, which was excellent. Prices weren 't bad; we 'd come again.
We visited for supper tonight because of a very high recommendation from our son. We were celebrating a little birthday trip to Deer Island and this was supper after the day. The food was good. My husband was halfway through his scallop/shrimp dinner when he bit into a scallop and instantly stopped and said ‘Ouch’! He took the scallop of his mouth looking it over, thinking there was a hard spot in the scallop. In looking it over he realized it was a pit. There was a crack sound so we are hoping it didn’t crack a tooth! We asked the waitress and she said that there were olives in the tarter sauce, she didn’t seem concerned at all that he had found or bit into an olive pit and didn’t inform the kitchen or anyone else what happened. She gave us our bill, no apology or anything else said. When we went to pay the bill, we took a picture of the pit with the bill and had the lady at the cash sign that she knew he had bit into a pit and could have a cracked tooth. She seemed quite surprised to hear of it, again offering no apology or anything else. Needless to say, our seafood wasn’t bad and our daughter enjoyed her roast beef dinner, but the experience definitely soured us to the place.
