Loved every minute of our evening at Zum Franziskaner. The minute we walked through the door we wanted to stay it was warm and welcoming, the food smelt so good, the ambience was great with a real mix of people young and old and very friendly staff. Really good range of beers on draft . The place was full but a server told us to sit at the bar and they would call us as soon as a table became free. We had fantastic service from Magnus who very helpfully explained the traditional dishes and we decided to share so that we could sample them. Herring SOS starter and the dish of the day Pyttipanna a kind of hash with fried potatoes, sausage, pork knuckle with a fried egg and pickles/beets it was hearty and delicious. Such a memorable night in this cosy old Tavern which was definitely not a tourist trap and amazing service despite being a full house.
The customers in Zum seemed happy every evening we passed. Venturing in for a beer/meal the hosting process was unclear. However, good choice of beers settled us into the vibe and other customers enjoying food suggested we should do the same. Wife enjoyed duck leg and I had Knodel. Followed up with fried cheese which should have been a bad idea but wasn't. Unpretentious and hearty.
Location of the bar-restaurant was very good , in the old town. The food and the beer were OK , but one of the waiters was extremely rude , with really rough manners.
My wife and I started in their bar in the back Zumens Bakficka. They had a variety of German style beers on tap, most brewed in Sweden, and they also sold snacks. We got a Marzen which was very good but we were primarily there to try the Bayerische Anstich style beer. It’s somewhat comparable to a cask conditioned ale the tap it with a hammer and there’s no added carbonation or keg system. It was definitely different somewhat flat with a strong, somewhat sweet malty flavor. I liked it a lot and was glad to have the opportunity to try it. We were there on a Friday night and they were going to tap 3 of the special kegs, starting at 5:00 pm. The first one lasted 35 minutes so you should try to get there early if you want to try it. They said the kegs last a lot longer on weeknights. Service in the Bakficka was inconsistent. We almost left because the woman pouring beer was so rude and miserable. She really shouldn’t be dealing with the public. We were able to get beer from a male waiter who was great however. very helpful and informative. We also ate dinner at the restaurant in the front of the building. The menu is primarily Scandinavian with a few German options available. The food and service were both very good. They also have a more extensive beer list in the restaurant with a very impressive list of German bottles,
