Ananas - Sydney

So Ananas...let's start with...if your looking to be wow-ed here save your breath cause it's just a regular French affair. It's not bad nor is it great (2.5) but bonus pts (0.5) for using the "best local butter", suggest you don't use it all on the bread and spread some on your mains....and the bouillabaisse was certainly the star of the night - it's not the sexist looking thing but that rich seafood base with notes of saffron...delightful!

We ate here on the Dimmi deal of 50% off food and wouldn't come back. The food was so below average, we didn't even bother asking for the dessert menu. We had the French onion soup which was watery, the escargots which wasn't hot or flavoursome enough, the steak and fritez which was overcooked and oily (the steak being oily) and the lamb shank which was teenie tiny and more the size of an entre. Overall a big disappointment.

Ate here for lunch with a 50% off food deal. Entrees of gnocchi and escargot were good. Side of cauliflower gratin was delicious. Mains - steak was a huge let down. Very tough - not just mine but all of our table of 4. It did not taste any better than a pub lunch steak, not worth the price - even at half off . Dessert slightly redeemed the meal - chocolate fondant and creme brulee recommended. Overall I recommend only to go if there is a special offer and you don't have high expectations. Some tables offer a view of the bridge. The interior of the restaurant is cute - French and pineapple themed.

I had a terrible experience here. We came for the "all you can eat" mussels. I have to admit, we didn't have a booking, but were prepared to wait. The greeter told us it would be roughly a five minute wait. We ended up waiting 40 minutes, and he repeatedly smiled and said "5 more minutes" two more times during our wait. When we finally got addressed, i smiled at him and said "i understand we didnt have an appointment, but next time don't promise people five minutes". He stopped walking in offence and said "excuse me?" I repeated what I said (still in a friendly tone) and he immediately said "if you don't want the table, i can give it to someone else". I tried telling him that i was just giving him a tip for next time, but he denied saying 5 minutes and threatened to give our table away a total of three times. This service is absolutely unacceptable, and I will definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone. To add insult to injury, the mussels were overdone. When we tried to order our third pot each (there were three of us), we were told that the kitchen was "closed", and that they couldn't let us order three pots, but could let us only order one. Um, okay, I can read between the lines. They should really market this event as "half priced" mussels, not "all you can eat" as this is misleading. Argumentative staff, mediocre food, deceptive advertising.
