The menus were given to us with a smile and a friendly chat. For our meal, we ordered the Farmer's platter and the Butter chicken curry. Both dishes were excellent in terms of quality and portion size. All three waitresses were attentive and had a bubbly personality.
After looking at the menu online, I had planned on ordering the ham, egg, and chips due to my gluten intolerance. Unfortunately, this option was not available on the Sunday menu when we arrived at the restaurant. Feeling disappointed, I had to settle for a gluten-free carvery as the only other choice was pizza, which I was not in the mood for on a Sunday lunch. It seemed like the regular customers were getting more attention from the staff, as they never checked in on us to see if our meals were satisfactory. Given these experiences, I may not be returning to this restaurant anytime soon. Additionally, my dad ordered the small scampi for £8.50, but we later discovered that he had been charged for the large scampi instead.
We have had lunch here in the past and it has been excellent. Not so today the mussels were small and gritty. My husband’s liver and bacon was poor tiny amount of liver, 1 slice of fatty bacon, perched on a small pile of what called itself bubble and squeak (orange colour, was it swede? Not sure what the 2 battered onion rings on top were about. They would do well to spend less on decorating everything with pea shoots and more on basic ingredients.
This pub is a nice spot with tasty food, and I have been a regular visitor since there isn't much competition in the area. The food is consistently good, and the staff are friendly. However, I have noticed that the bar is often empty for some reason. If you go to the bar for drinks, expect a wait as the staff seem to overlook customers waiting at times. It seems like they prioritize food over drinks. If you choose to eat in the bar area (it's better in the restaurant section), you'll need to order your drinks before your meal, or your food might get cold while you wait. Despite this, the overall experience at this pub is enjoyable.
Absolute rubbish, the organisation of patrons was out of control. We were told there was a 1 1/2 hours wait for our table, when we got seated, and main course which mostly stayed on the plates was over we were told we would have to hurry up as another group was booked for our table. This is not acceptable everyone is as important as the next. I’ve fed leaner meat to my dogs, the PHI has long been a popular venue for us. I can categorically state that this is the last time we ever visit £170 waisted.
