Sunset Grill - Toronto

I was so happy to see Sunset Grill had survived but my joy was short lived. I ordered Eggs Benedict with homes fries. The Hollandaise sauce was truly disgusting. I think it was made from a powder. The home fries we both ordered were pasty white. My friend had ordered bacon. I don’t know how they did it, but the three pieces, which were stuck together, were overdone in the middle and undercooked on the ends. The service was very slow and inattentive, although the place wasn’t busy. All in all, it was a big disappointment. We’ll never go back. Ever.

I absolutely adore the staff, service, and food quality at this restaurant. I have been let down by other places that have strict rules regarding food substitutions for customers with allergies. I want to give a special shout out to Evie, Barb, Maria, Guru, and Runyon. If I could afford it, I would eat here every day, haha.

Giving this Toronto institution the benefit of a doubt. Waitress was not too interested in me; perhaps that was due to the fact that I did not order a full breakfast. Or that I was not a regular. And to me, not refilling a coffee cup at a diner... That is a red flag. The food however is good comfort food and well done. Would be willing to try this place One Last Time, hoping it would not be the last time.

My friend and I visited this restaurant based on a recommendation from my Airbnb host. It was quite loud with the lunch crowd arriving around 11am and 12pm, but that was not a problem for us. We ordered pancakes, waffles, eggs, and potatoes, which were all very tasty. However, we were a bit put off when we saw the waitress and chef touching the pancakes with their hands - not very hygienic! They were handling tables and other items before touching the food without washing their hands. It was a bit strange and gross. Despite the food being delicious, this experience will be our first and last visit to this restaurant.
