The small menu is designed to offer a choice for all and on my last visit with a vegetarian friend, the menu was graciously adapted accordingly with no loss of quality, flavour or quantity. Situated on the main road through town, with lots of parking opposite, the Cave is quiet, friendly and appropriately priced. I shall return without hesitation........
Nathalie, is the owner, the chef and after 5 minutes she will become a friend. The food was the type of cuisine you would expect if someone in the area were to invite you eat at their mother's home. Beautiful house made foie gras terrine perfectly paired with a gingered jam. Followed by black truffle ravioli, and of course the local cheese course. Thank god Nathalie chose the the food for us because looking over her incredible hand selected wine list was not easy. I wanted to try just about every bottle on the list. Can't wait to go back in August, to eat, drink, and learn more about the wines of her region.
I planned to have lunch here, but it was closed due to school vacation. Instead, I got a table for dinner. When I arrived, I took a seat in the winebar and got served a very nice 4 course meal; foie gras, ravioli, cheese and desert. The wines served by glas were very nice and I actually ended up the next day to drive 1 hour to buy a couple of bottles of one of the wines.Recommended!
In late September 2016 our group of 16 arranged in advance a lunch at La Cave. It was superb in every way, from the multiple food courses to the service to the excellent and well-priced wines. At some point I will return even though I am over 3,900 miles/6,250 km away.
We dined here on a Monday evening, when all the more formal Tripadvisor picks were already booked out or closed for the night. However, given this was #2 in town, we were looking forward to a wonderful evening of wine and food. The owner was very friendly, chatty, and we talked at length about several wineries we had visited on our trip. Unfortunately for her, the food was an absolute disaster. This was all made worst by sitting at the bar seats and watching her prepare our meals. The foie gras was decent enough, but it was straight from the deli packaging. A few pieces of toast and some jam were the prep work. The most horrifying piece of cooking came about for the main. She advertised crab meat tortellini with a cream sauce. We watched her open a STORE BOUGHT package of pasta, and then put it in a tupperware container, add boiling water and stick it in the microwave. Sauce then came from a previously made batch that was similarly warmed up in the microwave. It tasted dreadful, only slightly better than something from a can or a bus stop canteen. To add insult to injury, a table of four arrived (who had pre-booked) and she pulled out what appeared to be homemade tortellini that looked a million times better than what we were served. If she didn't have enough prepped then why try to sell the same menu and charge the same price? I would have been happier with a deli meal of meats and cheeses than the garbage we were served and charged exorbitantly for. Ended with some local cheeses which were nice, but the damage was already done. We payed €100 for two of us to dine on microwaved pasta. If not for her friendly-enough attitude, I would give this place 0-stars. Bottom line, a good WINE bar, but don't go for the food.
