There's nothing extraordinary here, just good food, generous portions, decent service. We like the lively atmosphere. They're always busy but we can usually get a table right away.
Nice HK style cafe, generous servings, good selection, reasonably priced delicious Chinese food! Most menu items are priced around the $10 or below price range and usually comes with a free soup and hot drink as one would expect at a HK style cafe. They also offer Western style menu items.Parking in front and is also available at the back.TV screens adorned the walls and service was prompt. Debit cards accepted. Will definitely return to this place when we're in East Vancouver.
We came to this Vancouver Malay restaurant along Hastings this summer for lunch. The interior is quite nice, clean and modern compared to many of the sad looking Asian restaurants Vancouver has on offer. We ordered two sea food dishes one with eggplant, one a curry and they were good and excellent, respectively. The prices were good, portions large and service pleasant. They even give you a complimentary soup starter which was very pleasant. Can't wait to eat here again.
Heard of this place on a barelY hELPful site. Reviews seem to vary so we gave this place a try.The value was in the lunch special so we had two fish dishes.First up with the lunch was soup which today was a chicken, smoked oyster and spinach soup which was very tasty despite what it sounds. The oyster just didn't seem to impart any flavour though. Good warm up.We ordered a roti canai to share. It was actually pretty good though a bit rubbery when it got cold. Sauce was a bit thick but delicious. Just about as good as any we had in Malaysia earlier in the year.My main was to be the curried halibut (served with a big bowl of rice) but my wife liked it better. Delicious when hot. Not really piquant. The halibut was cut in chunks (skin and bones and all so be prepared to eat it Chinese style), battered and then fried. Also served with okra and eggplant. Delicious. The other was black cod which was also supposed to be spicy but wasn't. Seasoning reminded me of something my grandmother used for cooking but I can't pin it down. Different in a way from the halibut but nearly just as good. The lunch special was very substantial and very filling. Great price at $10 or under each.Tea was continuously poured. The Hainan chicken plate seem to be authentic with all the fixings but I didn't have it so can't judge. Didn't try any of the SE asian specialties either other than the roti canai. There are some items on the menu that would seem SE Asian in origin (or at least name) but the food is probably more Chinese influenced than Malay or Indian. I wouldn't call it Cantonese at all, or at least not H.K. Cantonese.Would go back to try other dishes.
This place has a heart :) What I'd love to have in my neighbourhood ...Eight of us were there for dinner last night, it was my first visit but a regular place for my fellow diners. And my, was I blown away by the authentic cooking, variety on offer, quality, and incredible value... I don't know how they do it! There's the simple fare like rice and noodle dishes on offer - but there's also stuff like shared mains dishes which you share and eat with rice, their curry is nice for those who don't like it extra spicy, their vegetable choices were good (there's a dish with pea shoots and fresh shitake mushrooms), crab, chicken dishes etc.etc.. Sometimes people think proper cantonese cooking is bland - bear in mind it is southern China, there's a coastline and veggies grow quite well, so there's an abundance of fresh things and people don't want to cover the natural flavours with sauces and strong spices when it's available. It's actually more healthy, with just a bit of garlic, ginger, spring onion and soy sauce. They're pretty good here, no MSG I think - I ate a lot and didn't get thirsty afterwards. They have very good menu deals for groups of people, you can select and they give each person a pot of proper traditional soup (the real deal!!!, steamed in a jar, what traditional grandmas would have the time to cook, VERY healthy). They have lunch deals where you have a plate of rice/noodles that includes a pot of soup as well. Can't get better if you need a nice hearty meal, great value, quickly served.
