Plus, we were able to bask in the sun on the patio. I will definitely drop by again some evening to sample the extensive tap beer menu (see photo).
Tangent has it all! This Commercial Drive restaurant and bar has become a favourite hangout for all the right reasons.First and foremost, Tangent has an excellent beer menu that features most Dageräad beers (the owners are brothers) along with the best of other craft beers. I've found some top Québec and Oregon beers here, and Nate, the owner, loves to chat about the brews on offer.Hungry? Expect decent breakfast, brunch, and dinner items that are always of a consistent quality. Their burger is a lunchtime favourite, and the Malaysian curries are home-style cooking, all for decent prices. Nothing fancy or pretentious, just real honest food.Like music? Kudos to Tangent for supporting both established and up-and-coming jazz musicians on Thursday and Sunday evenings. During the jazz festival, you can hear live music here most nights of the week.Friendly and attentive service, too...
Really great breakfast, decent value. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar, as we were leaving we both bashed into a hinge that was sticking out the of a window frame.
Our go-to place on Commercial Drive. Rotating beer selection - great to try the local beers here and visit the breweries thereafter. Food is great. Love the Malaysian food - roti canai comes with two kinds of curries - love the lentil curry, Malaysian poutine is very tasty, always have their stewed eggplant dish because we like eggplants, and the rendang beef. All at reasonable prices. The combination of good food, great beer place, and the buzz of people makes this our go-to place.
My husband and I were out cycling on a sunny Sunday and we wanted to stop in for some brunch and we saw Tangent and their big patio, a table had just become free so while he tied the bikes up I ran in and asked if we coud sit outside - the friendly waitress said "sure " but after a few minutes, another waitress came out and seemed quite annoyed "that we had just sat out there", not sure what her problem was but she was extremely rude about it.Anyway, I ordered the chorizo omelette and my husband ordered the breakfast with a side of sausages and bacon, and poached eggs with sourdough. Omelette arrived and it was ok -chips were very greasy and the butter on the toast was cheap - tasted like buttered popcorn butter ! yuck! But my husbands meal was a mess - everything came separately, the eggs and toast and greasy chips came on one plate, then three sausages came on another plate and then finally an extremely greasy plate of bacon arrived. The "sourdough" was nothing more than standard white bread and when queried we were told that "they don't stock white bread" - I have worked in a bakery making bread and I would be intrigued to see what they consider white bread if they think what they serve is sourdough??? Overall my husband left most of the food and he ended up feeling quite poorly for the day. It was not a good meal. Very disappointing.
