Feedback gevenI visited this restaurant for the first time based on recommendations from family members. Although I typically don't write reviews for restaurants, I felt it was necessary in this case. My first impression was that the urban setting was not bad and the menu was clear. However, the lady serving at the front was definitely unfriendly. The kitchen was very messy and unsanitary, and the place was empty - we were the only customers there. It smelled like someone had been smoking in the back. The man serving us was friendlier, but the dish I received looked like it would have made me sick if I had eaten it. I returned it and decided that it was not worth it.
I don’t understand the bad reviews...this place is epic! Fresh Fresh Fresh. Quality is a 10! The Carboni wrap is the best burger item I’ve ever had! The fries and onion rings were delicious and all the sauces are homemade. On top of the food being absolutely amazing and high quality the owner, Robert, really knows how to be welcoming. His customer service is as good as it gets! As for the complaints about pricing, you pay for what you get, quality and freshness will always cost a little extra. To me it was worth every penny! Plus you can follow them and save $3!
Even without the ability to have a glass of wine or beer the food was pretty decent. I had fish without fries and my friend had a burger with. Had to settle for water in a bottle and ginger ale. Not sure I cared for fish sitting directly on the wooden board server but I'll live. Pros: Fish was delicious, burger was good. Service was friendly and willing to please. Cons: Limited drink options. No Beer, no Wine, no sparkling water even. Music was overly loud considering there was only one other table in use.
The restaurant is overhyped and overpriced. I decided to try it based on the positive reviews online, but I suspect most of those reviews came from friends and family. When I called ahead to ask about the menu, I was informed that the restaurant is known for their fish and chips. I was quoted $16 for the Halibut Fish and Chips. Upon arrival, I was offered a special on burgers, and I ordered two with fries and a drink for an additional cost. The washrooms lacked soap and paper towels. The food was served on wooden boards with wax paper, and the portions were smaller than expected. The fish was inconsistent in taste and quality. When it came time to pay, I realized I had been overcharged for extras. The debit machine was broken, forcing me to go to a nearby bank for cash. Overall, I found the experience to be unsatisfactory due to the high prices, small portions, unclean facilities, and miscommunication regarding the menu items. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Awesome is the word for the entire experience at Captain Kookoo ! As my title indicates it was hard to locate in the shopping complex as it has a dark board with gold letters and we had to call to find it . But once inside , it is indeed a great place and Robert Vinelli takes a lot of pride in first counselling you about what he has to offer before you make a choice of the dishes to order. He is so right about the Fish cod and chips .. the tartar sauce is to die for : then we had the grilled halibut with a side salad and that was soooo delicious , just melted in the mouth with a zillion flavours ! The chicken burger (while it comes under junk , Robert with his quick sense of humour said it's best quality white flour ! but what the heck, we were floored : While I did have a doubt about the printed ink on the paper on which the food was served , he explained that it had a wax layer over the ink that prevented any contact with food and it served to maintain hygiene: Fully satisfied with his food and answers , we will return some time in our next trip :
