This place was fantastic, and open late-which is a godsend when everything else in the neighborhood has shut down and you're convinced you'll die without...
Wanted something a bit different and that’s exactly what we got. Opened the large metal front door to reveal a very lively location! It was definitely an experience and if the setting wasn’t enough then it also provided some very good dishes.
My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary while visiting Vienna over the holidays. We were super excited because we thought it looked really cool (we loved the interior design and vibe) and it seemed to have gotten really great reviews. In short: the...restaurant has a great vibe, super cool interior, great music...... TERRIBLE TERRIBLE service, and the food was nothing special (in fact, my pasta was luke warm when I got it, and already cold when I was half way thorugh). For some further detail if you are interested: My boyfriend ordered a glass of wine WITH his steak. His steak came and he kind of sat there waiting for a while for his wine, and eventually gave up and started eating. I had to remind the waiter THREE TIMES before it came (and he was already almost finished his food) At the same time, I had ordered my pasta with extra cheese. I thought the cheese would just be on the pasta as it usually is when I order extra. It wasnt so I reminded the waiter. Basically, every time I asked them about my boyfriends wine I also asked about my cheese, and eventually got it on the 3rd complaint, whereby I was already 3/4 through my (cold) pasta My boyfriend had truffle tries with his steak. Usually this means that there is some kind of truffle topping on the fries. In this case, the fries were super plain (looked like McD fries) and then he had to dip them into some weird truffle oil.... which was about as appetizing as it sounds. Not sure who wants to be dipping their food in cold oil? Because it was our anniversary, we had dressed up and I was hoping to get a photo. The waiters were constantly running around (perhaps why they kept forgetting our food/drinks) and were never at our table long enough for me to even ask them to take an image. The second they came with something for our table they would set it down and immediately run off again. There wasnt ever even a is everything alright? or a can I get you anything else? Overall it was a nice evening but super disappointing experience we expected great food and at least normal service. As we were waiting for our taxi on the way out, another couple came out of the restaurant and said that was terrible. dont eat there! to which we told them we actually had just eaten there, and had the same disappointing experience that they had.
Motto is a popular, trendy restaurant in Vienna’s 5th district. They only open evenings during the week (until late), but also open for brunch at the weekends. Both evening and brunch menus have several vegan options which are clearly marked on the menu. My favourite is the pumpkin soup or the falafel starter, and the curry main. If going for brunch I’d especially recommend the ‘vegan bun-fun’ burger. They do also offer tofu scramble but IMO it’s the weakest of the vegan offerings, so I’d recommend avoiding it. Prices are a little higher than average but it’s the perfect place to eat for a special occasion. Booking is essential as they get very busy during peak times.
