Despite being greeted by a friendly server, I was put off by the fact that he wiped his hands on his pants instead of washing them before handling our cake orders. The couches were dirty and the place had a musty smell. The bathroom was in a dreadful state, with a toilet bowl that had clearly not been cleaned in a long time. There were dust and hair all over the floor, and the pipes looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The odor was sickening, and I couldn't bring myself to use the facilities. I warned my friend not to go in either. We have reported the severe lack of hygiene to the appropriate authorities.
The coffee quality is superb. I appreciate the relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to browse through some books while unwinding. The service is friendly and efficient.
My partner and I visited this coffee shop after a day in Wakefield. The two gentlemen who worked there were extremely friendly and accommodating. The cozy atmosphere of this quirky little coffee shop was perfect for enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee. Not only was the coffee excellent, but the leather sofas were also very comfortable to relax on. Keep up the great work, gentlemen, you are doing a fantastic job!
Really enjoyed my visit when I dropped in on way to see the cathedral. Lots of books to see and buy. Good coffee (I had espresso) and gluten free brownie. Various snacks (which i didn’t try but looked good) Definitely recommend especially as good coffee is so hard to find.
I’d never been to Brews, Bites and Books before. I’ve walked past a few times, liked the idea of the place but thought that, since I’m usually with at least one child, it probably wasn’t for me. How wrong was I! A friend tagged me in a Facebook post about the summer holiday events at Brews, Bites and Books. I spotted a ‘Story-time’ session for 0-5s which seemed like the perfect opportunity to give the place a try. I went along with my almost 4 year old son and 8 month old daughter. We arrived a short while before the event started so I ordered a coffee, brownie and some tap water. There was a nice selection of cakes and tray bakes to choose from and the place had quite a homely feeling. Since it was fairly quiet we had our pick of seats and the gentleman who served us offered to bring our order over to us. There’s a good choice of seating with sofas and traditional tables and chairs. I didn’t take a pushchair but there would have been room and I get the feeling that the staff would have been more than accommodating. While I drank, we made the most the box of books which were available for children to enjoy. The coffee and brownie were both delicious! The time of the event came around and no one else had arrived. Nevertheless, another gentleman greeted us and invited us to the carpet area. It could have been awkward since it was just us and my son is usually very shy. It wasn’t though and we enjoyed listening to the story then playing a little game afterwards. Once the storytime was over, the staff brought a box of Play Doh and tools out for my son to play with and a giant rabbit toy for my daughter. I was so impressed! The kids had a great time while I enjoyed another coffee in (almost) peace and didn’t feel conscious of them making noise or a mess. I believe there’s only one toilet and changing facilities, which are more than adequate, are available upon request. I would imagine that some people would complain as they’re not exactly like the facilities at large chain coffee shops. However they’re good enough and, for me, the customer service far outweighs any negatives. We’ll definitely be back and recommending Brews, Bites and Books to our friends.
