Onigilly Japanese Kitchen Walnut Creek

Tried Onigilly several times after they got launched, and overall, I've appreciated their signature Onigilly' s as well as several of their sides. I have also always been a fan of onigiri, particularly the many versions found in Hawaii, with the best particularly known for the high quality rice and seaweed combined with traditionally prepared fillings. Onigilly is unique in it's variety of non-traditional fillings (eg, spicy bacon, lemon shrimp, miso tuna, ginger beef, etc), and the size of their version is larger which can definitely make a meal when eating a couple of them. People have different preferences, so while they use quality rice, I think the rice could be cooked more consistently and served at a warmer temperature. On-site service was friendly and pretty efficient, other than times when they have been short-staffed which is understandable given the pandemic, and ordering online for delivery has generally worked out ok. I hope to try some of their other dishes in the near future as well.

Came here for a quick lunch and they have the perfect bite sized onigiri. Their filling to rice ratio was on point and the onigiri set I had was the bomb. So sad to see them go. It's not easy to find onigiri places like this in the East Bay.

My friend kept posting about having sushi triangles out in Richmond and I have been dying to see what the rave was about. I am so glad Onigilly opened up near me. I finally got the chance to see what the hype was about and it was worth it. I got the real crab and fake crab to try. Both were so delicious. Very fresh and light. I enjoyed shaving this bite for lunch. The rice wasn't dry and had the perfect flavoring. The seaweed wasn't stale but it was also crisp. Each ingredient on their own was fresh and tasty. Together they were incredible. They had a cute little outdoor patio to sit at and in such a great location that you can walk off your lunch with some close shopping. Great place to stop in and grab a meal. I will be back.

We came today for the very first time and the sign outside said closed until further notice . The rating therefore is random. Hope to come back soon!
