I used to live in the northwest where Waterfields have their business. A few years ago, I moved to the south in the early nineties and stopped at Leigh en route to visit my son. While walking along Union Street in Leigh, I spotted a Waterfields branch. Remembering that my wife had mentioned they made delicious cakes and pastries, I decided to stop in and purchased some sausage rolls and meat and potato cakes. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The cake filling was bland and soggy, while the pastry was just okay. I understand that the filling may not have a large amount of meat, but this cake could have been eaten by a vegetarian! The rolls, on the other hand, were nicely crispy, flaky, and had a beautiful appearance. However, the filling was not what I would call sausage meat - it was a thin, tasteless white substance that may have been pork. I managed to eat the cakes, but unfortunately, the rolls ended up uneaten in the box. On a positive note, the young lady who served me was excellent - friendly and efficient. I want to emphasize that this review is only based on a small part of the Waterfields range. I regret not trying their bread, which looked appealing.
The French pastries at this restaurant are delicious, and the Christmas decorations were lovely. All of the bread and cakes tasted homemade and high quality. The staff are friendly and always willing to provide helpful advice with a smile, which really sets this place apart. Great job to everyone involved!
Whenever I try to visit this bakery in the city, always go vegetarian for the French bakery. really nice filling with a hauch of pfeffer, mumie.
Tastes delicious and everything is cooked perfectly. Favourite purchase would have to be the Christmas pudding truffles because they taste fabulous.
