George the owner was very friendly as were the staff but the main meal was a complete let down. The appetisers were good and we tried a couple of different ones as we were with friends and the dessert wasn't bad. I wouldn't go again and it was a complete disappointment.
We were in the Warrandyte area to see a friend. Afterwards, we decided to check out the Cyrus Greek Restaurant for a future lunch or dinner.A lovely old style Greek two storey home which needed a bit of TLC around the place. We decided to just have Greek coffee and cake as we weren't hungry for lunch just yet.We chose a delicious chocolate and cheese cake with our Greek coffee and I had Chai tea instead. The service was just great. The owner welcomed us and had a chat about dinner dishes for the future. They do functions and family/friends dinners etc.
I have visited this now and still curious. There were only three tables but the food still took a while to be served. The host (George?) was very pleasant and amicable but alas the waitress knew nothing about the food she was serving. She had not tasted any of it I dont think. I ordered Persian casserole but it was far more of a greek style and flooded with oil. Nothing wrong with the dish but nothing really outstanding. Rice was mediocre and something on the rice plate called Tachin was stodgy. The salade shirazi was far too sour for my liking. Not an expensive place and will probably go back to try something else perhaps.
George the owner was a lovely man, but this did not make up for the disappointing dinner experience. The dining area was chilly, with the fire hardly going. Our main meal took a long time to be served, with our vegetables arriving once we had nearly finished our dry over cooked mains (chicken skewers on the bone & lamb cutlets)The only really good thing we ate was the hot bell peppers on the entree platter, which would have come from a jar. George explained that the flavours & cooking methods were "traditional" therefore probably not to our liking..... & did give us complimentary desserts, (cold rice pudding) which is something we would not order or eat unfortunately. If you are after "traditional" style cooking, you may enjoy it. We unfortunately did not.
