Big tables that can hold 10 surround the room which holds many smaller tables to cater for smaller groups.Service: exactly as you would expect from a yum cha at Sunday brunch. If you are not used to it, you will be upset. If you are, then whatevs: you didn't come for service anywho.Location: the nearest competitor will be downtown, otherwise Souths Juniors. I wouldn't choose one of these over the others, ie. if you want yum cha in this area, that will be just fine. If you are downtown or nearer Souths, eat local.Damage: $1000 for 30 people.Tip: be good to your mum.
We visited for Yum Cha on Sunday morning. The trolleys came past thick and fast and we ordered in a similar fashion. All the food was excellent quality and the waitstaff were jovial and friendly encouraging us to try new things (taro bird nest thingy - yum!). Very busy and with staff who knew how to handle it. Great experience.
This is a popular dim sum restaurant in Sydney, remember to make reservation for visit. Most of the dim sum items are good except for the chicken feet, it's a bit hard when it should be soft. The mango pudding and roll is nice and also the bean curd. The prawn dumpling, siu mai and pork bun are all good enough.
Really nice food, very quick service and generous portions but expensive - I'm happy to pay that bit extra as it is by far the best Chinese in Kensington and Moore Park. Busy most days, a little noisy when full but highly recommended.
This is one of Sydney's worst yum cha. Keep in mind when it first opened it was possibly one best one around, leveraging on the excellence of Sky Phoenix in town. The key problem of this place is the quality of the prawns they use in their dumpling. After the spotted prawn outbreak they started using smaller cheaper imported prawn of terrible quality. Those are cheaper and taste horrible. The outbreak of this prawn disease is truely over but they have kept using these prawns to boost profits. To make matters worst the dumpling are totally overcooked and even my dog won't eat the shu mai I take home for him. I am not exaggerating and it makes me sad when good outlets go bad.
