さぬき Wū - 神埼市

After moving from Shikoku three years ago, I finally had the chance to visit this restaurant that I've been curious about for a long time. The menu was filled with tempting options, but I decided to go with the tempura bowl and udon set. The friendly waitress brought out the order, which was a large tempura bowl that looked delicious. The udon was not a mini size but a regular size, which surprised me. I took a hesitant bite and was delighted to taste the nostalgic Sanuki udon! I never thought I would be able to enjoy such delicious Sanuki udon in Kyushu. If you want to try authentic Sanuki udon in Kyushu, this is the place to go. I highly recommend it to all future customers of this restaurant! **Update**: I revisited the restaurant on January 23, 2021 around 3pm. As expected, the Sanuki udon at Sanukiya is still amazing. The tempura was sold out, so I had the shrimp tempura donburi and udon set. The shrimp was so big that it looked like it might overflow from the bowl. My husband had the shrimp tempura udon and inari sushi.

Located along Route 34, this restaurant is easily recognizable by its large red lanterns. Among the many udon and donburi options, my husband and I decided to share a bowl of meat and burdock udon as well as a plate of inari sushi. We had previously each ordered a plate and were surprised by the generous portion of rice, so this time we decided to share. The noodles were cooked perfectly with a flavorful broth. The crispy burdock tempura had a satisfying bite, and the sweetened beef melted in your mouth. We left feeling satisfied. On another visit, we tried the grilled meat bowl and hormone bowl. Even though we came for udon, as soon as we stepped out of the car, we were enticed by the delicious sweet and savory aroma of grilled meat, and couldn't resist ordering the bowls. The dishes were as delicious as the aroma promised.

On May 20, 2021, it was unfortunately announced that the longstanding 35-year-old udon restaurant would be closing its doors. This wonderful restaurant, which has satisfied my big appetite, has been a favorite of mine for years. I am grateful to the chef and all the staff for their hard work. Thank you for everything. ´∀`
