I was twice at my stay in Abancay and I was pretty sure they have the best pizza in town. After eating Peruvian food for almost a month, it felt good again with a vest in Europe.
After an epic 17-hour bus ride due to delays caused by an accident on the road, my family arrived sick and exhausted in Abancay. We checked into a decent hotel and planned for dinner. As we often go to Trip...Advisor, the best of the local culinary offers, with Pizzeria Adriana on the list of recommendations. Since all were defeated and uneasy, we decided to see if they would deliver. My Spanish is a work in progress and far away from perfect, but I am sure willing to give it, so try it, I did, first, as I often do, that I still learn Spanish, something from a desire for patience that has served me well in my travels so far. The girl on the phone for Adriana's had nothing about it and asked a colleague to speak with me in English, not her English better than my Spanish. After a lot of Rigmarole with her reading back the order, confirmed the name of the hotel and my phone number three times and told me that the pizza would be about half an hour, I moved to retirement watching Modern family comfortably in the conviction that I had solved the family's hunger problems for another night. I'm the hunter collector. After an hour, no pizza had arrived. I called Pizzeria Adriana to check the progress. For continuity, I thought it best to talk to the same girl. When the phone was answered, I asked the girl (in Spanish) when it was she who could speak a little English. No. Can I talk to the girl who speaks English? No one speaks English I explained that I spoke to her colleague only one hour before he could speak English, but be that, as it may, I would like to know where my pizza was, as it was over an hour. I tried to be polite, but the girl made it very difficult. She should say her tone was inconspicuous, finally say that the pizza is delivered in 20 minutes. After half an hour without pizza, I went to the Avenida Diaz Barcenos towards the Hotel Turista on the road to a beautiful little pizza place, which has cooked two great pizzas for me in 10 minutes while waiting. From the time of writing, it is two and a half hours since the order of Adriana and no pizza arrived, a shame as I was pleased to say the van to take it back, I did not want it. My advice, go to Hotel Turista (name escapes me, but easy to find). The pizza from Pizzeria Adriana may be good, I couldn't tell you I didn't taste it. But I can tell you that the phones are occupied by rude incompetent idiots who sound like pretty blunt instruments running on malfunctioning software. Take your business elsewhere.
