Having driven past and seen scones and coffee advertised we stopped but were greeted with a multitude of signs saying it was residents only and you had to call in advance . Driving past a week later we thought we would stop again having seen the sign out the day before. Again we weren’t able to cross the threshold . It’s a shame it’s a nice looking place and it ihas outdoor space that literally in a year I have seen one couple sitting at . I’m not sure what’s going on perhaps staffing issues but I’m not sure I’ve gone to a stranger place that advertises on a public raid that it has refreshments but then doesn’t let you in
We stayed at Loch Kinord Hotel for 3 nights and decided to dine at the hotel each evening to avoid any hassle of finding a restaurant in the current situation. It turned out to be a great decision! The owner sent us the menus in advance so we could pre-order for our first night, and we continued to order each morning for the remaining evenings. There were 2 menus that were rotated, each offering a selection of 4 starters, 4 main courses, 3 desserts, and cheese. We were able to choose our favorites from both menus on our third night. I highly recommend the fishcakes for a starter and the duck main course was so delicious that I had it twice. The highlight for me was the orange cheesecake, closely followed by the local cheeses. My husband enjoyed the trio of chocolate desserts. Despite the current Covid situation, we felt safe and welcomed during our dining experience. The hotel operated with limited staff, but this did not impact the exceptional level of service or quality of the food. The manager was very knowledgeable about whisky. The only minor issue was that my husband wished there was a wider selection of lagers, but he did enjoy the Innes and Gunn that was available.
In these unusual times, the restaurant offers a limited menu with drinks and scones only, which is understandable given the situation. After a lovely walk around Loch Kinord, it was a very welcome treat. The restaurant has reassuring COVID safety measures in place and the staff are very friendly. The freshly made scone was delicious and we were able to enjoy it while sitting socially distanced in the garden. Overall, it was an excellent experience.
This hotel, close to Aboyne is a class act. Privately owned , its restaurant has a lovely choice of dishes and an excellent wine list. Food invariably is very good. Has a loyal following.
After getting lost on a bike ride with our three children and enduring all of the elements, we stopped at this hotel. Despite being quite muddy, we were welcomed into the warmth and ordered coffees, hot chocolate, and the most amazing scones. My husband and I are already planning our return trip.
