Laird's Kitchen - Aberdeenshire

We had a great lunch with our young son. Good service in the small tea room with lovely soup, tasty cakes and a filling scone. Very cheap prices for the size of portions. All in the former larder of a huge castle. The castle is sadly a bit run down.

A lovely little characteristic cafe within Dalgetie Castle that seems to be very popular with the locals. We visited several times for afternoon coffee and cake while staying in one of the castle apartments for a week. We tried a different cake each time and they were all amazing! Would definitely recommend and the prices very reasonable too! Within the castle there is also a lovely little gift shop and you can pay a small fee for a self-guided tour of the castle which we found quite interesting. When we visited mid September 2022 it was open 10am-4pm, 7 days a week.

Visited here after walking our dog in the delgatie woods. Very pleasantly surprised! Lovely setting for a cafe/tearoom, we had a beautiful cream tea with scones. Proper tea served in teapots! Very friendly staff. They have quite a varied menu for lunch, afternoon tea etc. We didn't do the castle tour but will definitely be back. Open all year round apart from Christmas and new year.

Elderly person who served us had an utterly bizarre attitude which was off putting and we won’t return. The lady came over to us and said absolutely nothing no hello, no how are you, not even “what would you like?”, nothing! She walked over to our table and basically just looked at us. Me and my partner looked at each other a bit confused yet reeled off our tea/cake order anyway. The whole experience was very off putting. There was an older, up market english couple in the tea room who appeared to get much more chat and pleasantries from the waitress. Not impressed! Food was ok, nice, nothing special The likes of the Square Diner in Turriff is 10x better and only 2 miles further along by car. Service and our welcome, or rather lack of, was totally unacceptable in summary...

Worth a visit for lunch or a cuppa and cake. Very friendly staff and good food....especially the cake. We will definitely be back, next time we will have a visit around the grounds and castle. For all the rating section below...for some reason I can’t submit ratings for the service, food and value part.
