Hibachi Express - Abingdon

The sushi at this restaurant is simple, consisting of just rice and a piece of fish. While it's not my favorite, it's not bad either. The portion size is generous and the price is fair. If you enjoy basic sushi, this is a good place to go. Personally, I prefer sushi with avocado, crema, etc, but the flavor is still good.

I used to enjoy the food at this restaurant when they first opened in the early 2000s. After being away for a long time, I recently moved back to the area and have tried it a few times. The food and atmosphere do not match, but the food was excellent! The Spicy Hot Sour Soup was perfect and the Hibachi Shrimp, Teriyaki Chicken with Vegetables tasted awesome and was perfectly cooked. I substituted Garlic Lo Mein for Rice at my request, as I do not eat Rice due to it increasing my blood sugar. I appreciate their hassle-free substitution. I love the food here and the customer service is friendly and helpful. However, the sad atmosphere could be greatly improved to be more attractive. There are only 2 tables to eat at, making it seem like they do not want people to hang out and enjoy their meal. It has a plain, utilitarian feel like a Chinese fast food joint, even though it is a Japanese Hibachi, Teriyaki, and Sushi eatery. Updating the decor with modern furniture would make it more welcoming and appealing to new customers, showing that they value their customers. Adding a mini Sushi Bar would be a trendy and profitable addition. The management should showcase this great little Japanese eatery instead of hiding it and neglecting its potential. Upgrading the tired, old furniture would better match the quality of the food and give the restaurant the sparkle it deserves on Rt. 40/Pulaski Hwy. This would enhance the dining experience and attract more customers, encouraging them to spend more on big Sushi Platters. Offering all Vegetarian/Vegan Bowl options without meat would be popular, as well as creating a more welcoming atmosphere and adding kid-friendly menu items, especially since there is a daycare nearby. This would attract more parents to pick up meals, creating a ready-made customer base.
