Character's Famous Bbq - Adairsville

I finally had the opportunity to visit Characters BBQ, despite it being an hour away from home. Arriving late turned out to be no issue at all. The pulled pork was fantastic, and the ribs might have even surpassed it. Both dishes were infused with a perfectly balanced smoky flavor. The meat on the ribs nearly fell off the bone while still maintaining the ideal texture. The pulled pork was juicy and bursting with rich pork and smoky flavors. The sides were equally impressive; the baked beans were the best I've had in ages. The coleslaw was also exceptional—not overly dressed or soggy like you often find, and it wasn't too heavily seasoned, which allowed the fresh taste of the coleslaw to shine through. I can't wait to return!

Michael Character serves the best barbecue I have ever had, outshining anything from Texas to New York. I would happily go out of my way just for his potato salad! The coleslaw is fantastic, and the baked beans are just as delicious. You really can’t go wrong at Character's!

We first saw Michael shine on the BBQ Pitmasters show, and we've been eagerly looking forward to visiting his restaurant ever since. Today, we finally made the hour-long trek to Characters, where we tried the pork, beef, and ribs. Both my wife and I agreed that the BBQ was outstanding. We're definitely planning to come back for more! The coleslaw and potato salad were also quite delicious, though the beans were unavailable during our visit. The restaurant's ambiance captures the essence of BBQ perfectly (see attached photo for reference). The only downside was the lack of sweet tea; they only had canned drinks. Nevertheless, this didn't diminish our experience at all. I highly recommend this place to all BBQ enthusiasts. Just a heads-up: bring cash and some patience, as their credit card machine was out of order. Enjoy!

Fantastic BBQ! We couldn't wait to try this place after seeing it featured on Pitmasters. We will definitely be returning! I just wish they offered sweet tea, though!

This restaurant is amazing! It has recently moved from its old location, and while it has a cozy feel and seems more like a hidden gem than an upscale dining spot, the food is well worth the visit. It's not a fancy sit-down BBQ joint with lots of frills; instead, it's the top choice for outstanding BBQ. Be ready for a wait, and if they close early, it’s probably because they’ve run out of food for the day. The family that runs this place—essentially managing everything on their own—works incredibly hard to provide exceptional BBQ for our small town. We’ve become regulars because their BBQ pork and chopped chicken are the best I’ve ever had. Their homemade BBQ sauce is a thin, vinegar-based treat that pairs perfectly with the smoky taste of the meat. The baked beans are so delicious that you may never want to eat canned ones again. For family gatherings, we always call ahead a few days to place our orders, and it's a guaranteed hit—there are never any leftovers when we gather. Treat yourself and give this spot a try!
