I did not try to make their dinner options, but lunch definitely satisfied me: traditional and simple Ethiopian cuisine, exactly what I wanted! updated by the previous review on 2017-09-19
This is my favorite restaurant in Ethiopia! I have returned to addis ababa for two months after having spent at least six weeks here in 2012, and I will eat every day at the taitu hotel. the vegan buffet lunch is amazing. they can sit in the historical and quite formal hotel restaurant, or take their plate outside the terrace and sit under green or in the sun. the variety of foods is perfect and the quality never disappoints me. They can choose from their favourite dishes. tasty injera with lenses or kicherbsen, touching mixed vegetables, spinach/colds, a beautiful cauliflower and carrot dish, tasty and sturdy spicy stuffing (wats,) some spaghetti dishes, many different broth, crinkled baked carrots, simple reissies and a lot of simple. it is a great place to be gently introduced into Ethiopian taste. the restaurant of the taitu hotel is very popular with locals and I find it interesting to experience their culture, including the recipe for a beautiful high time to an occasion. the live piano music played on some days is also a beautiful surprise.
It's nice to sit outside and eat a lot nice. I was happy with the buffet and really liked the yellow lentil stew.
Yes- it is good that every day an all-you-can-eat vegan buffet is open for lunch in addis and the old hotel itself had an interesting ambiente. but the day I went (saturday) really full, and it took long to get a place (and even longer to get the water that I ordered) while the variety of foods was decent (injera-multiple arten, rice, spaghetti, various lentil and bean dishes, sweet dishes and salads) was the quality I decided for this place between 2 and 3 stars and then saw one of the waitresses kick a cat that had gone into the restaurant - not cool. Two stars.
I have been going to Addis Ababa for nearly 20 years.
