Kategna Restaurant II is probably a real special place for meat eaters. There was not a huge choice for vegetarians, but the spiced Fir Fir was excellent and filling. No desserts on this very traditional menu of course! But their "special tea ' is a drink to die for golden coloured with yellow foam on top. The universe is apparently divided on the foam but it was lovely both to mouth as is and stirred into the tea. Comes with the option of added rum the ultimate drink! Wonderful stately looking but super friendly waiters, comfy seating, though the music was a tad too loud the ubiquitous problem!
I’ve enjoyed the quality time that I’ve pleasently spent here. I’ve visited this place two times in a row during my visit to Addis. Both were a lot of fun and excellent dining experience. The waiter was speaking proper English, he was attentive and the entire place had an amazing smell (they’re constantly burning incense sticks, I assume). As a foreigner the Ethiopian/English menu was confusing because I had no idea about the names and meanings of the items listed, but the waiter has helped me a lot during my food selection. I’m uploading the pictures of the whole menu, for the fellow travellers who can find some time and motivation to do their homework before visiting, and you’ll for sure be an expert in Ethiopian cuisine in no time! I personally recommend Lamb Stew with Ayeb, Lamb Tibs, Lentil with Meat. If you cannot decide which one to choose you can go for Kategna Special, which includes 4-5 of those items listed in the menu, so you can have a taste of each. After the meal, the local tea tasted amazing and different.
This place is a live translation for its name You can’t find such taste any where else My love story with Ethiopian traditional food started with this place Quantity is sufficient Price a little bit high Menue is very rich Staff are friendly Normally it is crowded but for sure staff will help you find comfort Recently I knew that they have take away service An experience should be considered
The menu is extremely extensive and a bit overwhelming. We ordered a few things and in the end it was too much. With just two orders a party of two should be fine since the injera itself is also quite filling. The staff was a bit pushy and rushing even though the place was not fully occupied. Prices are reasonable although the waiter suggested we take the most expensive dish (Kategna special at 365 ETB) only to then say it is not available today.
