Very interesting food in a casual bistro atmosphere. Attentive staff and very knowledgable of their wares. Definitely an Adelaide highlight for two judgemental Melbournians.
Had a lunch here because Orana was booked out. The restaurant is a relaxed version of its sister venue upstairs, with a range of plates supplemented with Australian ingredients. We elected the feed me option. 4 courses, about 8 dishes. This was a reasonable quantity of food, we didn't feel hungry or too full afterwards. All the plates were good except for a sad dessert of some chopped strawberries and cherries. Standouts were the gnocchi, fish with smoked potato, ceviche, and beetroot salad. Apart from the good food, of particular note is the inferior fitout, and general dirtiness of the fixtures, furniture, walls. If this was my place , I would do either a brilliant clean from top to bottom or better still engage an interior designer to redesign the fitout and invest in some decent furniture. The food isn't reflected in the poor quality interiors.
Restaurant Blackwood has been on our to do list for ages. Run by the same people who own Orana upstairs we were hoping the food was going to be good...and we were definitely not disappointed. The wait staff knew everything on the menu very well and were extremely friendly and accommodating to all kinds of customers who happened to dine on the same night as us. Each dish was well worth the purchase. For a meal out in the city without fine dining but amazing food I would certainly give this place a go. We had kanagroo crackers with a rich spicy sauce, scallops and sea plants, king prawns, two different types of salads (beetroot, pumpkin and goats curd with macadamia milk and spinach & the other ones name escapes my memory), beef tartare with potato crackers and house made Dijon mustard, hot chips with lime salt then a brownie pancake to finish off. Between two way too much food but delicious none the less. The restrooms are located up the stairs so not good for disability access as I did not see a lift anywhere. But I didn't ask as neither of us needed one so just a small thing you may need to check before dining here.
