I'm saddened to hear about the owner. I had visited his restaurant multiple times and even dropped by to share that I was planning a trip to Thailand (before COVID). After returning post-COVID, I thought I'd stop in to see him. However, the restaurant was closed. Then I came across a review stating that the owner had passed away, and I was shocked. I had hoped to enjoy a meal there and recount my adventures in Thailand. I decided to drive by the restaurant to see if any family members were around, but it didn’t seem like they were still living there. There appeared to be some work happening, but I'm unsure if it will reopen as a restaurant, or if it will continue to serve Thai food. He offered truly authentic Thai cuisine, unlike the watered-down versions you find elsewhere in the Victor Valley that cater to American tastes.
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of our dear friend and owner of The Thai Siam restaurant. Tom has left us, and after 39 years, the restaurant has closed its doors.
I had a craving for Thai food, but I just couldn’t bring myself to eat here. There were about 15 cats in the restaurant, and the entire place reeked of cat litter. It was so filthy that I wouldn’t trust them to work on my car, let alone serve me food. I think the health department should pay them a visit.
Unfortunately, the establishment was far from clean. As I looked at the extremely sticky menu, the owner brought my companion and me some random canned beverages—an iced tea and a Hawaiian Punch—which we hadn’t ordered. Given the circumstances, my companion and I quickly decided to place our food order as takeout. However, when I found out that the restaurant only accepted cash, I politely used that as an excuse to leave. Although I was in the mood for Thai food, the unsanitary conditions of the dining room (which resembled the living room of an old house) and the presence of roaming cats made me doubt the cleanliness of the kitchen. I have traveled extensively throughout Thailand and eaten in some very humble places, but I have never encountered a place that felt this dirty. It made me uncomfortable enough to forgo ordering, regardless of how great the food might be. The owner appeared to be genuinely hospitable, and I wish him well. I can only imagine that it’s a tough business to be in. While I’m disappointed that I didn’t get the chance to try the food, my strong concerns about cleanliness—coming from someone who isn’t overly particular about tidiness—overwhelmed my craving.
