Having patronised Holidays Cafe for some years, I was quite disappointed this time around. The new operators are not as good as the people who ran the cafe for the last couple of years. The coffee is not up to their past standard. As well, they insist on using takeaway cups for inhouse coffee and this lowers the enjoyment even further. They have signs saying they are open 7am till 4pm, but they actually close about 2pm. And now they are not opening Mondays.
On first appearances the cafe seemed a little run-down, price was somewhat exorbitant but coffee arrived super-fast and was surprisingly delicious!
We left the campsite this cafe is on the premises of a day early effectively throwing $50 down the drain all down to the rude staff (I say staff.. I'm referring to the one lady running the cafe) Now bare in mind this is a cafe ON site of the caravan park (which in usual circumstances means they are part of the same business and are therefor quite happy to have you around) We visited the cafe a few times buying odd bits like coffees and the odd cake, sat and browsed the web using the wifi. It was just luck that we bought something in order to do so because, actually, it was never necessary to do so in the other places we had stayed. The way in which we found out that the cafe was not the same business as the campsite was as follows: We finished our coffees after sitting for about 30 minutes over them whilst having the odd google. (Traditionally, around the world people sit over coffee for up to HOURS in cafes. But we thought 30 minutes was enough) we went for a walk to a local shop, came back and realised we need to find out how to get to the next place we're going tomorrow so we went back to the cafe and sat down, we intended on being there a minute or so to find directions. Our bums had almost touched the seat when the lady ran up to us and said very quickly "you know you can't just sit here and use the wifi. It's for paying customers" fair enough I said "okay we'll buy something. Already having had a coffee and it being 11am and therefore not lunch time yet we bought a large bottle of sprite. To which she said "yea but you can't just sit here using the wifi all day just because you bought that, the wifi is for people eating their lunch (11am! He other few customers sitting there were sitting with their iPad and coffees. No food in sight) "we're not the same business as the camp your staying in you know" (first wed heard of it. We're standing at this point wondering what we'd done to deserve such a telling off, we'd never even spoken to this lady before..) I thought maybe she'd forgotten we ordered coffee earlier (which bY the way we didn't need to as we had loads of the stuff in a camper van 10 meters away) so I reminded her "we bought the coffees about an hour ago we just went and came back" she replied "yea but you used a lot of wifi for that 10 dollars (bit of googling for 30 minutes) Ill just switch it off if it comes to it!!" (Rather snappy)At this point me and my girlfriend are standing there bewildered having not done anything to provoke such a strange rant at us like this. We apologised and explained "we just didn't know, were really sorry we won't be long" We sat down with our sprite when it gets quite shocking.. we heard the lady talking to some other customers and laughing "they only spent $5 each".etc.. Not feeling the need for the wifi at all at this point and the feeling of being made fun of, we left the campsite there and then even though we had paid for another night there.
