En route from BC to Alberta, we stopped to take a day between adventures and discovered this unprepossessing little gem of a restaurant located in a strip mall. I had two boys with me for supper, both under 13. We chose the all you can eat sushi. Prices are reasonable at $18.99/pp for the boys and $29.99 for me as an adult. These are dunner prices. The food was very tasty. The boys ate like adults and both are usually grazers. They enjoyed it so much, they ate far more than usual. The sushi rice is nicely done, though some of the rolls were a smidgen loose. The tea was smooth. My 12-year old had the banana bubble tea and loved it. Our 11-year old guest had a shirley temple and advised it was amazing. The presentation of food was visually very appealing. Service was two thumbs up. My older son was so impressed by our server, he asked that we tip high. He's 12, and has never before asked this. From a service perspective: our orders were taken promptly. Food was delivered soon after our orders were made. Beverages were delivered initially very promptly. One con was that one of the boys was quite thirsty and went looking for water refills repeatedly. A slight adjustment to the server's check-in would tend to this. We were so focused on the very tasty menu items that we were not bothered by this. Ambiance: two thumbs up. Booth seating is comfortable and the backs of each booth extends high so it affords a natural break and some privacy for conversations. There were others in the restaurant but it never felt loud. Lighting was sufficient but not too bright nor too dim to see what we were eating. We enjoyed it so much that we have a lunch date planned for tomorrow before we strike out on our next adventure. Highly recommend this restaurant for both couple and families. There is a very vast menu for folks who prefer a la carte. The beverages the boys chose were not part of the AYCE, hover very worth it based on their feedback. We were so full that we didn't make it to dessert.
This is hands down our favourite sushi place in Airdrie! My kids and I have been coming here for over 10 years...I would say honestly around 100 times or more. The food is always fresh and delicious, the staff is very friendly and attentive and the food comes fast and very reasonably priced. We've never been disappointed or had a negative experience which is why we've always kept coming back :) After reading the previous comment below I can very honestly say that we have never once found a hair in our food (that's 100 or more meals for 4 people) and it would be very unfair to judge the restaurant based on that. Also...who tries to just leave without paying? Just saying!
So we just had lunch just a while ago. My hubby ordered the chicken ramen but the lady said to try to fish ramen which he did. I ordered the chicken teriyaki combo. We also have a combo sushi. The fish ramen was good as per husband BUT he found a strand of hair and we told the lady and she was not happy about it (She kept telling it seldom happened). As I was to eat my food, I noticed a strand of hair on my shrimp tempura and told the lady about it as well. Her tone changed to accusing us that we put the hair strands on our food. The only food we have eaten was the sushi combo but the individual meals were not touched at all. When we told her we will leave, she started raising her voice that we still need to pay. We are really surprised what she told us and continued to charge us $20. We pay the $20and left. I also noticed that that lady serving us and the two cooks were not all wearing hair nets. We ordered take out before and we liked it so much thats why we decided to dine in. For everyone that still gonna eat there, please watch your food for any hair strands and be ready to pay for the untouched food with hair.
Anyone can make sushi. Few do it well. Fresh fish and generous cuts are only the start. Most sushi restaurants fall down when it comes to the rice. Kirala gets it right every time. The rice is soft, moist but still sticky. Other sushi places pass of hard balls of dry rice that lacks taste an flavor. The owner "Ashley" has become a personal friend and greets us when we walk in. Quite often when we order for delivery she delivers our food herself just to drop by and say "hello". The bad reviews that I've read about Kirala make me wonder if the people who wrote the same actually went to Kirala.
